I usually buy some sort of spinning rod in the medium action range and have no favorite brand. I don't even know what brand I have now. It's red, and in sliver reads, "Angler" and then lists the specs.

With all the recommendations for Tackle Warehouse here, I checked them out. Great prices on lures and such, but the rods are mostly over $100. I don't think I paid $100 for the rod I took offshore. It caught fish just fine. Granted, that was over 10 years ago.

Favorite brand would be Edge. However I don't buy a lot of $500+ fishing rods. I have one and it's not really a rod one would use in Texas. It's a 10.5 mooching rod.

Kistler makes a series with NFC blanks, same as the Edge rods are made with. I've not handled one though.

G. Loomis would be next, the TFO.

I'll stick with the Shakespeare Ugly Stick. It's not flashy or high-dollar, but it gets the job done.

I really like Kistler Rods, more specifically the KLX line. I think for that price point they are the best around.

That being said, for a few bucks cheaper, the Falcon Bucoo is a great rod.

I personally am a huge fan of Abu Garcia for my cheap rod needs (and reels) as they have good products, arranty, and leave me with a great sense of value and quality without breaking the bank for me, though they do offer very high end equipment as well for those looking to kneel down and beg for mercy as the cashier swipes their cards... whip

I have to agree with Ugly Stick for the money they last a long time as long as you don't abuse the eyelets and are as tough as they get.

Best of luck, Scott
