Wheeler branch is an excellent kayak lake, White Rock, Bachman(big bass here), but I guess they dont get any love because they are smaller urban lakes.

That's an excellent list. I'm an Austin angler, so the middle part of that list, I'm unfortunately not familiar. Just a few quibbles. Walter E Long (Decker) may be a power plant lake, but it hasn't been producing power for awhile, now. No matter, it's a good bass producer, and almost the antithesis of Lake Austin when it comes to boat traffic. Lake Bastrop is often confused with the lake in Bastrop State Park. They're not the same body of water. Lake Bastrop wasn't effected by the fire, at all.
Again, great list. I'd rank my Austin favorites in the following order:
1) Fayette 2) Bastrop 3) Decker 4) Ladybird 5) Austin
That order goes almost in reverse order in the winter months, which is the best time to fish Austin and Ladybird, before the recreational traffic gets to be too much.
Thanks for sharing.

Good point on Bastrop. Fixed it.

That's a good list for sure. For me the recreational traffic keeps The Bird from being number one. It's pretty sweet in the winter when things die down but the more I have learned Decker, the more I love that lake. You can catch quality and quantity. Man there are some toads in there.

I agree with backlashed. Low pb traffic, beautiful scenery and big bass. No way Naconiche doesn't make the cut!

I guess you always want what you can't have.
I'd rate Texoma, Lewisville, and even Lavon above what we have here in Austin. There are far too many people on these lakes here. Austinites love their water.
It really comes down to what you want to go fishing for I guess!

Lewisville above anything other than a pond dried in the sun is a step to far...

Lots of lakes I haven't been to but of the ones I have, my list would include the following based on the fishing and the scenery, in alphabetical order. [1] Athens [2] Caddo [3] Falcon [4] Fork [5] Martin Creek [6] Monticello [7] Murval [8] Naconiche [9] Palestine [10] Texoma
