Long Lining a 1 oz. spinner bait is a technique that you might want to try this summer. It puts you out in the wind where it is a little more comfortable to fish in the hot summer time. Position the boat on the 25 ft. couture and just drift with the wind. Let out as much line as needed to keep the blades turning and bumping the bottom. Strolling takes a little practice but will produce lots of bass over 10 lbs. during the summer months. You will find that it is necessary to fish backwards with the trolling motor into the wind to control the drift. Most long steep points will have a sweet spot at 25 ft. on one side or the other where there is just a short distance of steep drop with a good rock cropping to hold the big bass. As I would drive to Lake Amistad and look at the mountains and hills running long points of them; I would see on almost everyone there would be a small sharper drop with lots of rock. If you can imagine that point coming off a mountain and running out into the lake, then the same thing you see above water is possible under water. With the new depth finders and side scan, a steep rock cropping can fairly easily be found. Another great piece of equipment is the new Motor Guide with contour lock capabilities. Follow the contour drifting with the wind using the trolling motor to stay on that contour which holds the steeper drop will produce some big bass this summer. It will take several passes back and forth on the drop to present the bait to the bass that may be staged on top of the drop, suspended just off the drop or laying at the bottom of the drop. Taking the boat out deeper and bring the spinner bait up the slope at a angle instead of parallel with the slope is also very productive. The equipment I like to use:- Tweaked 1 oz. spinner bait with willow blades. Large blade down sized to a 4.5 and Diamond Dusted in blue hologram. For clear water the small blade in white Diamond Dust. For stained water a small blade in chartreuse diamond dust. - I also use the same spinner with the large Indiana blade which is taken from all the Hank Parker spinner baits that I have rebuilt. I like to diamond dust this blade with red dust calling it the Blood Blade. It is backed up with the same small willow blade as above. - 7' Med. Heavy rod any reel will do. - 20 # XPS Floro. 17 # if the water is real clear. Just a couple of the big bass caught doing this.

Any other slow rolling deep water experiences you have had would be greatly appreciated. I have heard stories of it being used at night to hunt the big bass on clear water lakes. Doing it at night is something I have not tried.

I have been trying to catch some deep on a spinnerbait, but have not had any luck bought some sk bottom dweller spinnerbaits in 3/4 and 1 oz. I can catch them on a crank, fb jig, crig, or Magnum shaky head. Those fish won't bite the spinnerbait though I sure thought they would when I ordered them

Are you drifting from deep water to shallow, presenting them uphill?

I have tried any presentation I can think of uphill, downhill, or running them along the drop off. It doesnt seam to matter they just won't eat the spinnerbait. Its hard to keep throwing it when I know I can catch them on so many other techniques. Spinnerbait and a flutter spoon still have yet to pay off for me fishing structure.

If you would send me a couple of your spinner baits I will fix them for free. - Scented living rubber skirts - Diamond Dust the blades. - With the Stanley Pro Trailers - Along with a dozen Heat Signature Cylinders
This will give me a better knowledge of what it takes to get them to bite. If you are on deep fish we will find out pretty quick if these added parts work or not here in Texas. I know it works in South Texas and Mexico. Just PM. me for my address.

Great info, as I was considering picking up some larger spinner baits to add to my arsenal for targeting deeper fish this summer. Specifically I was considering the 44 magnum spinner baits; http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Nichols_4...age-N44MBB.htmlI am setting up a new rig to run deep cranks, my heavier chatter baits, and potentially these spinners on and while I have found very promising info regarding rod specific for the crankbaits of course, and even promising info on chatter baits which are a bit newer, I have not found a lot of feedback on running huge spinner baits deep and slow. How do you think one would fare and enjoy running these large spinners slow and deep with an Abu winch 5.4:1 ratio on a Veritas winch cranking rod? 7' 6" MH moderate taper? Thanks for the great insight!

I like the MH. rods because of the amount of line I have out and setting the hook at that distance. That rod will work great Mulholland. With my huge long shank hooks on these spinner baits it really helps on the hook set.
I just do not like braid line for this technique although it helps greatly on the hook set. The line gets wrapped around the upper arm as the bait is dropping to the bottom. This has not been a problem with the 20 # floro. line.
A 1 oz. bait will call for less line out. A 3/4 oz. bait will call for more line out to keep it down and thumping.
I want the bait to stay in contact with the bottom, just touching down ever so often. No hopping the bait, just a constant thumping along the bottom on rock and ledges. On the deep grass it is a different story. When the spinner touches the grass as it thumps along I will kill the retrieve then hop or rip the bait out of it to trigger the big bass strike.

I try to put everything on my spinner bait and jig what will convince the big Bass that it is real. - As large of an eye that I can get on there. - Scented living rubber for action; to take care of the movement when at a dead stop and Minnow extract to give them their most natural scent. - Diamond dusted blades to represent the scales and flash. - Heat Signature Cylinders to represent a critter coming from the warm shallow water back to it's comfort zone. - The discontinued Stanley Pro trailer which I have not found another trailer to out catch it. They love that thin curl tail action. - I also like the twisted line tie for strength and durability. - I have also move the rattles from the belly of my jigs to the BB inside the big 1/2 eye.

Here is a video from Wired2Fish. Looks like a pretty simple technique. http://youtu.be/hI85nm1bh6Y
