Good friend "sharkanator" went down to padre last weekend.
Weather was not favorable for offshore fishing. But,
He only had 3 days and ended up paddling out anyways.
Here is the result.

He must of really liked that hook! So float he mentions at the start is for his bait then after he cut the shark loose he had to paddle back to the rig (getting real small looking) to get his rope?

Crazy bold moves. You always read comments by some on youtube like "you've gotta get the hook out of that poor shark" No way; don't need to see GoPro footage of your hand bitten to shreds, cut the line and forget it. In saltwater, that hook will rust to dullness in days.

did you hear the drag? sounds like it could use an overhaul.
i have an old penn that sounds the same n need an overhaul too.

sharkanator told me he was frustrated that he only had 3 days to fish then, his truck broke on the rd which shortened his time. after fixing the truck & finally making it to the beach and getting bait the wind was kickin like 2 thai boxers cry

can u see the rig in this pic?

i wouldn't go to the rigs with wind that strong. if i turtled i donut think i would b able to catch the yak to get back in. 2-3 miles is a LONG WAY TO FLOAT back to land especially since great whites are migrating to texas now. there are also 14 foot tigers and huge bulls lurking eeks

he was too soar after this video to fight the wind and decided to call it a trip. Wise IMO!

did make for some interesting video. you got to admit he pulled it off pretty good hammer

Wise decision to let the shark take the hook, probably would have had to retie anyway. Great Catch

I'm just a fishing video critic at heart, Fish ZoMbiE. rolfmao I almost dumped once upon a time when I first started fishing offshore. Was fishing in 100 feet using live bait when I got thumped. Started cranking on big level wind and heavy rod when fish (amberjack) came up fast without any problem. Caught me off guard when it came into view and immediately changed course and dove straight back down nearly pulling me out of kayak and over the gunnel. I had rod butt under armpit on opposite side of kayak it came up on I was literally spread eagled on my back with my head lower than the top of highback seat and rod bent over gunnel while I was trying to get lower in kayak to keep from going over. rolfmao bang It left a lasting impression on me to say the least.

Just a friendly reminder. rolfmao

Mannnnn looks like a blast. Getting the hook out of those things is not easy. I'm hoping to get offshore over the holiday weekend.

Honestly, while obviously it's not ideal, those big rolling swells don't bother me nearly as much as tons of whitecaps crashing down on you. Still nerveracking and I personally wouldn't have gone out alone in that.

When are we getting salty Nate?!

I've always believed if you target a fish you should at least make an attempt to get the hook out. Caught a silky shark once that had three other hooks in it besides mine. It was sad to see such a beautiful fish with a mouth full of steel leaders and hooks still attached. Drug it back to shore and got all the hooks out.
