I've owned many Bass Cat Pumas or Puma FTDs over the years and everyone of them one capable of doing over 80 with a 250. The fastest being 84. The slowest 80.0. Even with twin power poles I can still reach speeds up to 81. Loaded down and a second person in situations I've seen 79-80 but will run routinely to 78. An Eyra is the fasted Bass Cat and is a couple mph faster than the other BCB's on average. Outside of Allison, Stroker, Bullet straight off the floor I'll put a Bass Cat against any of them.

The ALLISON and STROKER hulls produced today are among those capable of being the FASTEST available from a factory. Both companies manufacture 21' Bass Boats that are quite fishable. The new ALLISON looks pretty darn nice in their ads and will probably look even better up close in person. Of course top speeds and performance of both ALLISON and STROKER hulls will depend on choice of power and set up.

Fuel efficiency is nice also, if you have a boat that will run 74-5 maxed out and you are running that speed your gonna burn alot more fuel than a guy that can run in the 90's if he wants, but is just cruising along at 75.
I burn a heck of alot less gas in my bullet than I did in my skeeter.... I have a zx21 skeeter that I really like, but this is a good point.

Randy Howell (Elite Series) runs a Triton with 250 Merc Pro XS and his boat is the fastest boat in the elite series. That's not from me, that is from about 5 or 6 other elite series pro's who say the same thing. Supposedly, he can hit 78 by himself with gear. I know he has a fast boat but Grant Goldbeck switched to the new Allison this year. He said he only put a 225 on it because he didn't need the extra horsepower. I'm not saying his boat is faster than Randy's but I'd be curious to see how fast he could go. I also heard Cliff Pace could get his Skeeter up to 78 but I'm not completely sure that's true.

They said that, but the Allison's have some funky wording on their coast guard plate, pretty sure that's why he went with the 225 to make sure he was legal. The 21' Allison is a big boat, with that lower unit and the 225 it will probubaly be right there with the faster of the boats on tour. Once he gets enough seat time to drive it that is. One of his Marshall's posted on another site that he boat was all he could handle in the mid 70's with water conditions etc. and did t feel comfortable pushing it yet. It will run good once he gets it set up and can drive it. But a 250 merc with a sportsmaster would have been much much faster. It was posted on another site that he is looking into the legalities of either putting on a merc Lu or coming the sho lower. Apparently he's been passed by Howell and a few of the faster guys , but he needs the seat time to fly that hull

The dealer tried to get him to put a 150 on it.

Guys with slow boats always can come up with multiple reasons why running fast is not for them, yet almost everyone of them are changing props, changing jackplates, etc...trying to make their slow boat run 71 instead of 69. If you get a fast boat from the beginning, you can drive it as slow as you want but have the speed when you need it. Main thing is to be comfortable driving what you got and be safe with it. I gotta be honest. My boat tips out at about 51-52 and I've never swapped props or even considered adding a jack plate.

It doesn't surprise me to read that a dealer may have tried to get a customer to put a 150 on the new Allison. That 150 was probably a new Mercury Four Stroke like the one they ran on an Allison at a recent Miami Boat Show. Do some research and you will be surprised at the top speeds they were getting from the 150.
I mounted the same engine on my 21' STROKER and have been very satisfied with the performance. The results were a true 21' fishing platform powered by an in-line four cylinder that doesn't burn 2-stroke oil and is relatively easy on fuel. At age 65 my true racing days are over so I wasn't looking for 100 mph plus speeds from my STROKER hull. Just a nice quiet run down the lake to my favorite fishing spot. OK, maybe blow past a few slower boats on the way!

i have a 2002 Triton TR-21 with a merc 250xb. Bought it new still have it. Passes everything but a gas station. Besides a bullet or similar no other boat on the water today is faster (nor uses more gas/oil). I raced an BC Erya with a 250 last month and he lost. Not that i care anymore i am over the speed thing, 12 years later i will say i am still impressed. I can whip your A$$ with GPS speeds but it depends on load and time of year. It's fast....
