Hey everyone, I just purchased my first Fly rod and reel. I went with a 7/8 also ordered some frogs, a couple poppers and clouser etc from Orvis. It all has ended up costing more than I had originally planned but I feel like I still need a broader selection so was wondering where the most cost efficient place to order flies are.. Also, could y'all recommend some different flies. i will mostly be targeting bass but would like to be able to target most fish. Thanks

Wooley boogers, Red & white clousers, Chartreuse and white clousers, Borski bonefish slider and Walmart poppers have all been excellent for me for catching bass and perch. Others on here use the jig flys, cap spiders and foam terrestrials as well.

Thanks for the recommendations and the website. I was kind of surprised my forum search didnt turn up a bunch of these type of shops. One of the lakes I've been fishing has a bunch of these little blue dragonflies so I guess it would make sense for me to mimic that, right? pretty obvious question I imagine. Thanks again

If you can get them to bite on top water. The top water bite in the evening has just about disappeared. I have been fishing deeper with wooley buggers and clousers the last few days. If you're looking to just have fun catching bream and small bass the small walmart poppers work really well. I catch a ton of bluegill and bass on them. Just casting them in the holes in the weeds or just outside the weed line, letting them set and twitching them usually is all you need to do.

Well heck no bream and small bass are not ok! I want me some DONKEYS! Thanks for the advice. I hope the blue dragonflies are still around next time I go. I was witnessing what seemed to be bass hitting top water around the lake and I just imagined it was the dragonflies, I suppose they could have been hitting baitfish near the top.

Yes, I actually started another thread in the fly tying section, "Dragon Fly Season". The bass were jumping clear out of the water at a frantic rate at about 9:30 the other morning. I've been trying to tie and fish with a dragon fly pattern. I have been fishing small ponds with hundreds of dragonflies around them.

No, I'm not catching anything yet. I need a micro swivel in order to properly cast the type of dragonfly I am tying. I'm not finished trying yet, I have faith it will work. Others have been successful.

I have bought several off eBay. Most have been good quality and lasted.

Look at his website, he states which hook model he uses on each fly. All name brand hooks.
