I was mowing this evening and checked my catalpa worm trees. They are loaded but a little small yet, should start putting some in the freezer in another week or 2. Anyone else fish with these, we catch blues and channels on them.

Yes Sir, I been putting them in the freezer for about a week put about 300 in today after fishing, cleaning, and eating a good mess caught on punch bait and catalpa worms. It's kinda fun shaking the tree dodgeing poop and watching the worms fall. And I have a mt.Cur thats not a good hunting dog but will find catalpa worms and if your not watching him he will eat them.

Are you'll freezing them in corn meal or anything to keep them from sticking together..someone told me you could put them in the fridge and keep them alive for quite a while and the would star crawling again when they warn back up.

I used to freeze them in corn meal, that works pretty good. Now I have switched to freezing them in water. I haven't tried it yet but a guy swears that if you heat up some water to warm not too hot, then pour in a bunch of white sugar stirring it until the sugar dissolves. Let it cool then pour it on the worms and freeze that it helps them hold their color without turning black too bad.

Don't forget to freeze you some June bugs and grass hoppers also. Cats in winter love them.

I blanch mine then freeze them in water. This year I have added a little scent to the water. I'll let everyone know how they work

I checked a few trees in FTW and they had beans on them but no worms, did I miss them?

Professer catalpa worms have alot of enemys fire ants, rain crows, wasp, birds of all kinds, and dry weather. I have had catalpa trees for about 30 years and after about 10 years my trees quit having worms on them. So last year I trimed them back I mean way back I did a number on the fire ants as best as I could and I have got alot of worms but only on the trees with lots of new growth. Maybe the new growth is the thing that has brought the worms back.
