I don't use super glue and all I use is braid. Just tie a knot in the tag end and cut the excess.

I agree, you must have made a mistake when you looped it back in on the improved part. I have never had a issue with the knot, even with braid. But the standard cinch knot will come untied at times. I've never had a problem with the Palomar knot either except it is hard to tie with very small flies or eye hooks. Otherwise, it is much easier to use.

I tie that knot for Florocarbon and had 1 failure in the past 5 years that I have been tying it. Must have missed a step, It happens...

Pretty much any cinch knot will or can slip with braid. I only use Palomar with braid. If you insist on using a cinch knot with braid put a little superglue on it. . .then it won't slip.

I tie a know similar the San Diego knot. That and a palomar most of the time.
There is another I can tie with my eyes closed in about 20 seconds after I've run the line through the eye. I'm sure under scrutiny and tested against the palomar and my other knot it would not be as strong but it does not break that I notice.

I tie 1 knot 99% of time and I have never known it to actually fail.
Sounds like you did not get the tag end through the correct loop and off into the wild blue yonder your bait went.

Been using that knot ever since I started fishing as a kid. Only knot I knew how to tie up until I started using Flourocarbon a yr or so ago. Now we use the San Diego Jam knot. Then I started trying braid so we switched to the Berkley braid knot I think its called. All in all I use 3 knots depending on the type of line I'm using.

Yep, ya'll are pretty much right. It was my first attempt, must have bungled it. I knew it looked too easy. I was just going to practice a few times.... Well, paid the price for my own 'ineptness'. Thanks for the advice and suggestions.... The picture of the dogs face I'm sure is pretty much how I looked when I saw it flying away.... God Bless

Any knot can fail if tied wrong. The improved clinch will do what is expected when tied & lubricated right. I've had every knot fail, all my fault...

It was the first knot I learned, but once I learned the palomar knot I stopped using it out of pure laziness.
