Made this for a church social and it was real good but to me it needs more tang. Not sure what to do to help it. Any suggestions?

Ingredients
1 medium head of cabbage, shredded (2 and half lbs.)
1 medium red onion, thinly sliced
1/2 cup green pepper, chopped
1/2 cup sweet red pepper, chopped
1/2 cup sliced stuffed olives
1/2 cup white wine vinegar (used regular white vinegar)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon mustard seeds

Directions
1. In a 4 quart bowl, combine the cabbage, onion, peppers, and olives.
2. In a saucepan, combine remaining ingredients; bring to a boil.
3. Cook and stir for 1 minute.
4. Pour over vegetables and stir gently.
5. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
6. Mix well before serving.

Cole slaw is simple. You need cabbage, a sweet and a sour ingredient.
The sweet and sour is to ones taste. Perhaps vinegar and sugar for instance.

Everything that I've known called for a cup of vinegar in that kind of proportions. And cider and white wine vinegar tend to be more tart than plain white.

My first knee jerk reaction is you've got too little vinegar, need cider vinegar instead, and where's the lemon juice? Mama's always had the juice of either a lemon or a lime or two in it.

Play with it while you're mixing it up. You want it to knock your socks off while you're sampling the sauce because it'll dilute over the slaw.

What Kattelyn said should help a lot. You might also try adding some sliced radishes and/or sliced jalapenos for some kick.

I chop cabbage, red onion, carrots, celery, and red bell pepper. Add some black pepper, celery seeds, and use Mrs. Marzetti's Cole Slaw Dressing (WalMarts). No one has ever complained.

This and a touch of horseradish oughta do it!

This is the recipe I use and it's always turned out great.

1 garlic clove pulverized with a 1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups buttermilk
1 cup mayonnaise
1/8 cup dill pickle juice
1/8 cup vinegar
2 tbsp mustard
1/2 cup white sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. celery seed
Pinch cayenne pepper

I mix together in a blender and put in the fridge overnight

I'd just like to hear how the edit turned out. Did any of the suggestions fix it?
