Sorry Texans, can't bring myself to call it a cork.
Was watching Al Lidners show and they were fishing for carp on a float. Is there difference in what bait you use when you use a float - or is it just the same hair rig, bolies, corn whatever, just higher in the water?
Any recommendation on what level to fish?
It seemed like an interesting way to fish for carp. I know folks use fly rods, so obviously carp will feed at the surface, how often are the found up off the bottom?

hey geek I have a centerpin float set up, google lift fishing the floats raise up instead of going down you just stare at this little orange dot in the water waiting for it to "lift" my best luck has been on a number 6 hook with 2 kernals of corn right on the hook just toss it out and toss out a handful of bait arond the float...centerpin fishing is a blast 1:1 gear ratio and 6lb line my largest on the set up is 22lbs and it took forever to land it....

When I'm in that cove on Simmons with the jon I see a LOT of large fish suspended around 10 ft in 15 to 20ft of water. Sometimes much higher but I think these are gar. Can't be sure. If you're curious you could always meet us out near the ramp one day and take the boat out to try em. You'd just have to dodge us casting at you from the bank!

Waggler floats are used in the UK, you can get some distance and they stand up well in windy conditions. There is another float called a Chubber, it thick and bulky it looks like a cigar.
Looking forward to meeting you guys.

I've caught carp plenty of times on Slip Bobbers before. Never intentionally fished for them that way, but obviously it works. I've caught them on nightcrawlers, leeches, and minnows under slip bobbers plenty of times. So corn might do the trick too, if you can put it right in front of them.

most float fishing for carp is still done with the bait on the bottom. The float functions as a bite indicator, either lifting or dipping under when a fish takes the bait.

I did this as a kid. Dough balls with a stick bobber. (round styrofoam cork with a stick thru it) caught lots of carp.
Drop down just enough to keep the bait on the bottom and the line tight. I think I used a small split shot above the bait, but I can't remember.
