After 60years, I am back crappie fishing. I have several Xmas trees ready for placing. Is this legal? If so, I need advice as to placement, depth, etc.

Check with the controling authority of whatever lake you're considering for any restrictions on brush piles. Most lakes it's ok. I try to put mine around drop offs, creek channels, etc... around 20 to 25 ft deep. Take some help with you. Those trees can be a hassle setting out. Good fishin!

Here is what info i have, two house bricks is not enough to sink one. Yrs ago I watched as one 5 ft tree with 2 bricks float away. I was always bad at math though.

once you check with the controlling authorities, you might consider using cinder blocks to weigh the trees down.hopefully others will chime in and help out.

Fill a 5 gal bucket about half full of secrete, add water and force a heavy piece of wire into it, the ends bent 90 degrees on the bottom. Use romex or any heavy wire.
I usually put a rope around the trunk, pull it with my boat to where I want to drop it and replace rope with wire tied about the trunk and the other end into the loop you made in the bucket. Throw the bucket overboard. Check for fish whenever you can.
