This has been discussed plenty of times here. Do a search for "Talon vs Power Pole" and you'll find plenty of good info, plus a lot of product bashing.

I would not run another boat without shallow water anchor.
Both have their pluses and minuses but I'm really lovin the new 10' Talons which are quieter, stronger and more features than the previous series and the 10' are shorter than the prior 8' Talons due to 3 stage deployment design. I can clear my garage without having to add tilt brackets.

Thanks Doug, I was interested in the usefulness of either and your answer really helped my decision. I fish a lot by myself and with wind conditions I find myself on the trolling motor more than I am able to fish effectively.

Tomcat-- the shallow water anchors are becoming almost a necessity -- especially for slow type fishing. No hunting something to tie to. Miss a fish, deploy the anchor while retying. Want to fish a laydown, deploy and don't fight the trolling motor. Wind pushing down a bank, partially deploy and let the anchor "drag" the bottom to keep you straight and slow you down. Like Doug, I favor the 10' Talons because of depth reached and compactness on the back of the boat. Recently mounted one a Ranger and measured from the shop floor to the top was around 80" (less than 7') which allows you to back in a standard garage door. We sell, install, and ship. Give me a call if I can help. John BTW, I'm also a Powerpole dealer

Thank you for the explanation John. It is just another investment to make and I was trying to justify it and understand its usefulness which you certainly did assist with. Thank you once again. Tom

PowerPole has the best customer service in the industry. I'm not sponsored by them just a customer and user for the past five years, and it is used on average about 200 trips a year and deployed several times a trip. Not the latest and greatest but the 8' model. Mine is unit #149 so they have made a few since then. Yep poor folks have poor ways. I'm yet to hear anyone having bad customer relations with Power Pole.
