Search craigslist in your area. Some small kayaks could be on there. Could get a steal around 75-100$

cheapest simplest path to the water is probably a one man inflatable boat.... and of course craigslist is always great Just found this gem... http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/boa/4483327086.htmlNo title but you can paddle and push pole creeks to your hearts content with no title, just don't put a motor on it on public waters without registering it. http://dallas.craigslist.org/sdf/boa/4443382958.htmlIf you don't have a truck bed or trailer handy or they are hard areas to access, something like this is probably best though.

Used tubes is a good cheap way to go, but if you like to build you can try other things. A few decades ago, I made my own from some free discarded heavy duty (rugged) dock foam that was being replaced with new. I used 2 foam pieces to form 2 pontoons and bolted together with 3 lengths of 1/2" threaded rod with flat light fixture mounts for "grab" washers to form a triangle pattern. Added a scrap plywood deck to the 2 top threaded rods and mounted an old, low slung beach chair (a discarded plastic patio chair with legs cut off would also work). Added some cheap fins for propulsion, and it worked for many years.

I have this RAFT that I use around Allen and various other places all the time. It's really light, like 30 pounds, and extremely manageable with one person. It's held up very well in everything that I've put it through. It can fit, me, my tackle bag and 2-3 rods. Plus it has a weight limit of like 400 pounds so it handles it very well. It just the right size that I can put it in the back of my pickup, fully inflated. I just use a tie strap to make sure it doesn't fly out.
