Your statement is ridiculous. Any venomous snake in reasonable proximity to people is a threat, period.

I don't necessarily agree that its a threat no matter what. However - they DO find ways to get in houses. When I was young, like 7 or 8, I was staying at my cousins place out in the country, went in the kitchen to get a bowl of cereal in the morning, and almost got bit by a rattlesnake. No idea how it got in. My cousin ruined the linoleum in the kitchen by shooting it with a 4-10. Lol. His parents were really pissed. But the snake was dead.
frkazoid Then he did good!!

Hahaha good point kill them if u want but all you morons who have these irrational fear of snakes need to go somewhere else and live. This is Texas we have snakes get over it. Learn what's harmful and what's not by taking 5 min to google it!! Never seen such a large group of pansy men in my life

I know you are well knowledged fouzman. Please correct me if I'm wrong. They are "dangerous" only if provoked to attack. Otherwise it's their nature to give a warning then try and back away. If you provoke it it will feel threatened and attack.

On another note:
A good snake is a king snake, they do eat copperheads.

I've had family members and pets bitten by copperheads in the yard. So yes it IS a valid point. When working in flower beds or even walking barefoot in the grass your feet and hands are exposed. I realize that snakes do not just randomly strike people but a child's foot coming close to one is perceived as a threat to them and they will do what comes naturally. At this point, my live and let live attitude goes out the window, but that only includes poisonous snakes. I love to see rat snakes and king snakes on my property. They are very beneficial in controlling the rodent population. In the woods or anywhere away from homes, I won't harm any snake. They are not a threat to me or mine at that point.

X2. I have been bit by a copperhead in the shin 3 years ago and though I'm cautious of venemous snakes, I don't have an irrational phobia. I enjoy seeing and catching the non venemous varieties: indigos, kings, coachwhips, vine snakes, hog nose snakes, and such. Cool Texas wildlife.

A smart tourney fisherman would buy 100 plastic snakes and toss them in the competitors boats.

They'd be the only boat on the water, based on some of these replies.

Yup, those suckers can find their way into anywhere...

I personally try to leave them alone unless they are a definite threat and then they get the shovel

Last time I had to deal with one, was a sand viper in Iraq... it was sitting in the threshold for our tent one evening, and my buddy stepped right over it without seeing it (wearing flip flops...lol). I came behind with my flash light and saw it curled up right there in the doorway. We got the shovel and I hacked it up then we burned it so no one would accidently get stuck with a fang on the deceased snake...

I didn't enjoy doing it by any means, but we definitely didn't want anyone hurt. We were out far enough that a bite from a snake like that would be lethal due to the amount of time it would take for a Medevac helicopter to fly us to Kuwait for treatment.

And like a few people had mentioned, it is the rodents that attract snakes... My dirt bag room-mates in my tent were keeping food in there, and we got mice... It didn't take long for the snakes to show up after that...lol

That is a big snake in the bathroom. That is why I stress keeping the doors closed all the time. Now I don't just kill snakes I check em out, but if it is venomous off with its head. I have called in some huge ones and had them relocated. I think snakes are interesting and useful, but I don't begrudge anyone killing them, they seem to replenish without any problems. I haven't seen a gator yet.
