Many ramps have launch fees and some smaller lakes require you to purchase a permit from the PD to launch. Do you pay only if you are using the ramp?
Do you pay if you use the parking area, but not the ramp?
Do you pay for permits regardless, even if you park on the side of the road, carry your kayak down to the water, and launch after trudging through thick vegetation?

Just want to do the right thing.

If someone is there I generally ask first before paying. The Lynn Creek Marina at Joe Pool has generally let me launch a kayak from their ramp for free but I always ask first. For the most part other places I fish are State Parks or honor system pay boxes and I'll pay. I figure its best to pay then getting in trouble.

If I enter a park and launch I pay the fee. I figure I am taking up a parking space that a boater (who is paying) would normally use. Also, most of the fees are used to help maintain the parks and ramps.

I pay the fee. Most places are typically no more than 4-5 bucks.

+1 This is what I've been doing.

If a Tx state park, I use a park pass. If a COE or private launch, I pay the launch fee where one is posted. However, some may tell you no launch fee required for yakkers such as Highport on Texoma ......and then I just put a note in my windshield that I am a yakker....last thing you want is "the boot".

I pay at Highport. I've seen too many folks booted or towed at ramps. The fee is worth the peace of mind knowing that my truck will still be there when I get done fishing.

I always pay. One time I talked to one of the owners of Lynn Creek marina as I was unloading and he told me no need to pay if I didn't have a trailer

Texas public and private launch fees are a Bargain! In Florida most of the private launches are $10 per kayak so if you showed up with one trailer and 5 kayaks...Cha Ching. bang

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

The park in Trophy Club charges $1 for non trailered boats. $5 for trailered. I pay the dollar. It's worth it to have a patroled park to park at.
