I had the same thing happen to me 2 years ago, glad you are recovering.
When I started taking blood pressure medicine no one told me it was stripping the salt out of my blood to reduce my blood pressure.
Ended up the the emergency room & got 2&1/2 liters of saline solution. Doctor said I couldn't have drank enough liquids to replenish my system in the next 3 weeks on my own.
Something for everyone to remember for the future. If you start taking blood pressure medicine you can & will have a reduced tolerance to working in the Heat!
I can totally relate to this.

Oops, I missed this post. Glad you're ok, Lehman. At 63, I still do lots in hot weather, including 5,000+ miles a year on a bicycle. That always includes a few 100 mile or 200k rides on 100 degree days. But I've learned a couple of very important things.
1. Drink lots. This one is obvious, but easy to forget if you're really into whatever you're doing. I down extra salt on long rides in hot weather, too.
2. Build up your heat tolerance gradually. This is the one that really gets overlooked. The first few hot days of summer are always the most dangerous. Your body just isn't used to it. Once you've spent some time getting your body better acclimated to really hot weather, it seems to do a better job of not sweating so much that you crater. But it takes some time in the heat. This is most certainly even more important if you're taking any kind of drug that might add to heat problems.
This time of the year, with the hot days just now upon us, I like to ride in the very hottest part of the day. If I get home from work at noon or shortly afterward, I'm going to be on the bike. I already have 100 miles ridden this week. But, it's all short rides. And I won't tackle a long one until I'm confident that my body is ready to withstand the heat.
I've found in the past that if I tackle a long ride before I'm really acclimated to the heat, if I just ride an easier pace than normal, I'll be ok. How much effort you're putting out in the heat matters a lot.
This thread is a good reminder for all of us. Thanks for posting.

glad you are ok. Mine happened while I was driving at night. The yellow stripe in the road was blinding. It is a scary feeling. In addition to your symptoms, I had the worst headache of my life. I didn't care what the ER did to me. But the very first obvious symptom was extreme irritability. And Gatorade is not junk. It is magic juice when you need to replace electrolytes in the heat. And yes just like others said, You will be more sensitive from now on. It is just best to keep an ice chest full of goodies with you. Good luck.
Yep. I'm a woman who loves to fish. And sure you can load my boat for me. Hee Hee

Scanned over a few messages, didn't see this..but keep in mind you also need to drink alot, the day before you go out, as well. This will greatly help internally hydrate your body. And then during the day...drink small amounts of water at a time...but often, to stay hydrated. Glad you are ok!
