It's been a while but I managed to get back on the water yesterday morning. I fished the Trinity River south of US 183 south to around Interstate 20 in Fort Worth. The fish were biting, too bad they were mostly on the small side. I caught most of them on brown jigs with a grub trailer and weighted wacky rigged senkos. I tried various color worms but they seemed to prefer the "sweet tater pie" colored senko style worm from Strike King. I hadn't noticed that the water level dropped about a foot midway through my trip. Downed tree trunks that I had easily floated over on my way upstream were now major obstacles on my way back. I expended a lot more energy on the return trip than I was expecting but it was still a great day.

Nice. It looks like you could be a million miles from nowhere, and you're actually in the DFW.

What do you think caused the drop? Something that discharges into the river? Wind?

That looks like a great time. I wish I knew of a yakable creek somewhere near me.

Did you put in under the Southwest Blvd. bridge just east of Vickery Blvd? I have put in on the south side of that bridge before but haven't gone there in about 2 years even though I only live about a mile from there. I need to go try that area again.

Sorry for the late response guys:

Fishguz-Hey Tad, too bad you couldn't make it. We'll have to try it again sometime soon.

Bine-I believe the flow in this area is controlled from the Benbrook Lake dam. I have no idea how they determine to increase or decrease the flow. I know parts of the river were dry recently due to bridge construction.

Cowtown Kid-That's it. I park under the bridge at the Trinity River Trails trailhead on the north side of the river. I cart my kayak to a concrete drainage ditch about 50 yards from the parking lot. If you launch from most areas along the bank you're going to sink knee deep in mud. The drainage area is nice and rocky.

Pic of my launch area

I know exactly what you are talking about the knee deep mud. I made that mistake the first time I fished there. I launched at the south edge of the parking lot but when I came back downstream I tried to get out of my kayak on the north side of the bridge and got in the mud. What a mess.
