So those of you that fish deep a lot here is a something I am wondering about, do you start your day deep?

Or do the deeper fish not position themselves until later in the morning?

I love to fish deep, but honestly I always start out with a shallower pattern then moved deeper, not sure why I have never started on some deep stuff...

Me Personally, I have been on some deep fish the last couple of weeks, so I start there and they are there early. A lot of times I do as you stated and start shallow and move out later in the day.

I'm like you, Doug. I usually start shallow then work deep. But, there is times when I start early, fishing the deep spots (25+ feet) and catch them on spooks. Those deep fish will come up to the surface to have their top water appetizer. For me, I don't start doing this until the water temps get in the high 70's or higher.

I remember starting deep on second day of a tourney and catching an 8 pounder. I think it's a confidence factor.

I've found that I can not catch them deep early as well as I don't catch them shallow early... I have the results to prove it. flush_2

I have been wondering this too I have been on a good deep bite the past few weeks, but I never get on the lake before 9am since I work night shift. Have a tournament Saturday and trying to decide if I want to chance it deep early or catch a few on top water first thing.

If I'm on deep fish, I dang sure check 'em first thing. Those deep fish have their feeding times too just like the shallow fish.

I've started (and caught fish) in several tournaments with a big c-rig or football head jig in 20' of water.

I think it's just in our nature to want to fish shallow early morning, I know I like it. But I can promise you deep fish feed at daylight too.

Literally just changed my pattern last week. Used to always start shallow & go deep. Not fishing as shallow at the start & spending a lot more time going deeper.
