I'm thinking of heading down there from college station for the first time on Tuesday and fishing throughout the day and then on Wednesday morning. I'm looking to get into some reds and trout. If anyone wouldn't mind pointing me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. I will also have a kayak so hopefully that will open up the fishing opportunities. Thank in advance for any help!

You have any luck down there?
Im gonna give it a go this weekend. I heard the seaweed has calmed down in the surf but is pretty off colored at this point. Gonna wade west bay first i guess unless the surf is calm and green.

Honestly I didn't catch a thing. I tried the bay Tuesday evening but it was pretty windy so we ended up leaving and then the next morning we tried the surf and had no luck. We never used any live bait though. Only artificals.

We hit Jenkins Bayou a couple of weeks ago with the fly rods. Saw a lot of 18 - 20 inch reds, but had a hard time getting them to eat. I caught one, lost one, and missed a strike. The one I caught came out of the only pod I saw actually chasing bait.

Fishing is great right now! Check your tides and track down areas that feed into smaller bays, marshes, and cuts (all this can be done on line). They are hitting hard on shrimp right now, so you might want to consider getting some at any of the local bait shops. We have been doing a lot of night fishing lately... fishing is good when the tides are shifting, but starts to slow when the tides set (then you'll have to start tracking them by birds or top water movement... unless you know the sweet spots!)

I'll be there Monday - Friday. I am planning on hitting a pier, jetty, and maybe go hit the Texas City Dike. Any tips would be appreciated. I will be down by San Luis Pass.

If your at San Luis Pass you might want to cross the toll bridge into Freeport and fish the marsh... we have been doing pretty well around Drum Bay and Christmas Bay lately too.

Thanks for the info. Are there any good spots to try out that I don't have to wade? My girlfriend is going also, and there is no way she is going to wade...she's scared of sharks lol

Try the Texas city dike maybe, fished there last night towards the end and caught several trout off of live shrimp. Used a generator with a light however.
