We took the dogs to Grapevine lake today. We walked around in the woods. The tick count is up to six. We weren't even there for long. I haven't seen ticks bad like this in a long time. There were loads of grasshoppers, too.
I've been dabbing them with Old Spice to make them let go, and picking them off with pliers. I've gotten all six off with heads intact.
The dogs have been misted with Advantage.
The internet says Lyme disease is rare in north Texas.
How does TFF deal with ticks? Prevention and elimination. And on people. One tick was on my wife.

I'm outside a lot and go with 3 layers of DEET on my legs, good against ticks and chiggers. I spray my lower legs on the skin, my socks, and then my pants and hiking boots. A shot around the waistline, too. Always check your body, and those tight places, when you get home.
You can also buy clothes impregnated with permethrin.
For dogs, a tick/flea collar, or a monthly topical applied to the skin (like Frontline).

A monthly topical. I spray the yard about once a month during the tick season w/sevin.

Seem like every year a new disease crops up that you can catch from ticks. The latest is heartland virus. One death has already been reported in OK.

Thanks. I've spread the fire ants all over my body. Now I have a different problem.

Talked with a oil field surveyor the other day. He has flea and tick collars around the top of his boots. Says it works well.

If you don't want to use chemical on your yard where kids or pets might be, you can use diatomaceous earth (not the kind used in pool filters). You can usually find it at nursery's that sell organic products.
At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

Thanks. After six ticks from a leisurely stroll on a trail, I'm ready to be defensive. Didn't know DE worked on ticks. The less poison, the better.

And now we're both lost! I ain't full on hippie, but I try to be easy on the environment. It's the only one me and the fish live in.

This stuff worked for me so I always keep ma can handy...Repel Permanone Clothing and Gear Insect Repellent kills and repels ticks and mosquitoes. Please read the directions on can.I have used it for years when hunting on the ground in Ark. and it really works well and it says it will last thru several clothes washings just treat your socks and pant legs,,sleeves and collars, and let it dry well ..Do it in a well ventilated area .. Do not use it on animals or on skin..Another good use is to spray your luggage if it works on bugs and mosquitos then it may help if you happen to get around bed bugs in a hotel somewhere.
