So I was out on my kayak yesterday, throwing my 7 foot medium heavy rod with a Spinfisher v4500 (I know it's a saltwater reel but I love the smoothness)and I have an 8 inch worm with a 1/4 oz bullet sinker texas rigged attached. I'm just throwing into some beds of hydrilla and pulling the jig through the weeds when I'm seemingly stuck again, except as I attempt to pull myself free, the "weeds" start taking drag. I get excited, thinking I have an 8 pound bass or better, because I absolutely can't move this thing, but my rod bends a little bit more and the fish has snapped my 10 lb Berkley xtra tough mono. I'm aware that it's possible the fish was able to cut me off around some thick weeds, but I've had fish get wrapped around in there before and always have been able to pull them out. So the heart of my question is, what line would you guys recommend to avoid this scenario happening again? I have 30 lb braid underneath the mono and thought about maybe stripping off the mono and then using a 20 lb fluoro leader, but I'd really appreciate some other insight.

If you mean is the water real clear, then it's stained but has better visibility than alot of stained waters.

i use 20lb when flippin jigs. gotta have the extra muscle to yank them out before they have time to wrap you all up in the grass then its like pulling a 30lb fish instead of a 5. Best thing to do is a soon as you set the hook get it outta there ASAP.

All I use pitching jigs is braid. You have more confidence throwing it into slop....

if you are fishing around thick grass or punching mats then braid is the deal. about 50 - 65 lb test on a big heavy action rod. this setup is also good for a laugh when a small fish bites just under the surface and doesn't catch any grass as he flies over your head on the hookset!!
