I did a search but came up with nothing. I haven't been to JP in years. My sweet wife has planned a Father's Day GTG with the family and even rented a pontoon for the day. I figure maybe some of y'all could help a brother out with tips. JP is never going to be my regular fishing hole so don't fret about sharing info, I promise it will be a one time visit for me. If you don't feel comfortable sharing, I understand and will clear my pm box ;-) I mainly fish for striped fish but have some bass and cat gear, hell I don't mind chasing carp if that's what will be biting. Thanks in advance guys cheers

Crappie are decent if you can find them (i never have). Catfish are decent in the southern tips of the lake. Bass are few and far between but have some that are decent size in the grassy areas (tons of grassy areas)

I live 5 minutes from that lake and avoid it.

TPWD rates it the worst lake to fish in the region

The state park area towards the dam is decent for both bass and sandbass if you use a trap or lipless crank bait in the deeper grass in 10' - 15' foot of water. Other than that I would look for coves with timber and access to deeper water if you want to find both species.

You can get into sandbass off the humps outside of lynn creek just east of the marina. I dont know why its such a tough lake it has all the elements. I may go tomorrow to hone my dropshot skill (fish dropshot only) from the yak.we have caught a few sandies in the mouth of walnut creek.

It looks like a good lake but the minerals aren't there to support a great population. See below:

 Fish Community
Prey species: Gizzard and threadfin shad were present in the reservoir. However, catch
rates of these species remain well below averages of other district reservoirs.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Habitat: Littoral zone habitat consisted primarily of rocky habitat, shoreline emergent vegetation, and
flooded timber (Table 4).
Prey species: From 2006 to 2009 electrofishing catch rates of gizzard shad averaged 87.0/hr and
ranged from 54.7/hr in 2009 to 122.7/hr in 2008 (Figure 2). Index of vulnerability for gizzard shad was
poor with values averaging 45 from 2006-2009 (Figure 2). This average was similar to IOV estimates in
previous years. The electrofishing catch rates of threadfin shad varied from a low in 2008 of 77.3/hr to a
high of 276.0/hr in 2006. The average threadfin catch rate from 2006-2009 was 191.1/hr. This is below
the district average of 262.0/hr. However this average catch rate is higher when compared to the previous
4-year sample period (2002-2005, 76.0/hr). Electrofishing catch rates of bluegill were variable from 2006
2009 and averaged 204.9/hr. Catch rates ranged from 78.0/hr in 2008 to 385.3/hr in 2007 (Figure 3). The
bluegill population does not contain large numbers of quality-size fish (>6 inches) or preferred sized fish
(>8 inches) as evident by a PSD value of 7. Not surprisingly the decline in catch rates of bluegill coincides
with the decline in the abundance of aquatic vegetation. Longear sunfish catch rates were variable from
2006-2009 averaging 24.8.0/hr and ranging from 4.7/hr in 2006 to 54.0/h

I like to fish the flooded timber right by Lloyd park. Pitch jigs, plastics and try deflecting cranks off sunken tree stumps. I've thrown rooster tail style baits in there and have caught bass, sandies and crappie.

Thanks for the tips guys. We ended up postponing the pontoon rental BC the winds were just too strong to consider taking a boat load of women and children out. We still had a great time grilling and chilling and even did a little swimming.
