I live next to Lavon, but have never really fished it. I went the other day to do some fly fishing in it and ended up knee deep in mud, being chased by snakes (water snake), and tired. I still had a blast, but can anyone give any locations to wade in near shallows where you may not sink. If anything give me a side of lake. I am not asking for hidden spots just advise or help. We also tried below dam, but has not luck. I may try over by mallard park this weekend.

My personal experience with Lavon has been that it is more of a boater's lake. So I too look forward to any info on wade fishing it.

There are few spots where you can wade fish: Lavonia Park, the island in the middle of lake ( long walk), power plant.

Good to know. It is a bit ironic that probablhy the best wahy to find wading spots is from a boat.

In spring time, you can go to the rip rap along the rail road, catching lots crappies. "popper and dropper" method will be a very effective way of catching them, I think. I just learn this method from our TFF member, and have to try it yet. There are also lmb along rip rap.

Before i got my boat i would wade out at the power plant between the little ridge ramp and the spill way and the bottom is solid there. There are also lots of different kinds of fish there with the power plant running etc.

You're welcome Robin, I learned how to fish on Lavon. It is a very under rated lake. I wish the TPWD would consider stocking Hybrids in Lavon. I think they would do good. Cooper lake is smaller than Lavon and the hybrid are thriving there. Always like to help others out on my home lake

I've tried, but its tough. Lavon can be very deceptive. The bottom is firm and the next step you are waist deep. Carry a pole or long stick and probe in front of you. I've been stuck more times hunting out there than I care to admit. If you start to get stuck, back up fast and do not stop moving. Getting stuck can exhaust you quickly. Like Keith mentioned the Power Plant is one spot. The discharge pipe just South of 380 can be firm once you get to the water. Getting to the water will be the hard part.
Fastest way to figure it out- Get TarponFly to take you out there.

East Fork Point Has an old pond with boulders around it. Stand around that and the Sandies will sometimes show here. The is a road bed that comes right up to the rocks submerged and heads out towards the island. It's a mini fish highway. Ground is kinda sandy due to the swim beach. Little Ridge Park point The fish also pop here in the mornings and evenings. Sometimes they will hold just off shore within casting distance in about 8 to 12 foot. Especially when we get a thermocline. Glasshouse Cove point You can only fish this with A boat or kayak. It is private property. The fish will pop up here in the mornings in the evening and sometimes hold just off the point in the deeper water 8-15 foot Baptist Encampment Sometimes the fish pop up on this point as well. Hit and miss on this unless you have a good South wind. Avalon Park Very sandy beach. Won't sink very much at all here. Mornings and evenings they will boil here and also there are two submerged boat ramps that they will sit on during the day. Very hard to know where the road bed actually is unless you have side scan. The Island The Sandbass have been holding just off this point about 50 feet in 12 to 15 foot of water sometimes 18 to 20. They usually boil here every morning as well. South Lavonia The fish usually hold just off the beach in 10 to 12 foot of water during the day. Every morning and every evening they usually pop up here. Best spot would probably be the point near the dam. Standing there you will have 8 to 9 foot of water to your right and then toward the damn, it's about 15 to 20. The drops rapidly towards the dam. This will hold around that point which extends hundred and 50 yards west. North Lavonia Fish will pop up around this area every morning and evening. South of the boat ramp about 100 yards is a submerged boat ramp which they will sit on during the day. It is a little bit obvious where it is due to all the rubble on the bank which extends out into the water a little more than the rest of the bank. That goes out to 9 feet deep and drops to 12. South of the submerged boat ramp, is a Rockgarden about 100 yards south. Holds all kinds of species of fish. Hybrid Point A very big long flat. Sandy's will usually push shot up on top of this flat and boil for a couple hours once they start here. All these areas hold fish and it's up to the fish how close to the bank they will get for you. Just have to be lucky they pop up near you. Eventually they will pattern out and you can go every morning at the same time and they will pop up like clockwork same time everyday weather permitting. Like tomorrow morning, I know exactly where they will pop up in the morning. North Lavonia 7:15 AM. If they don't pop up there, they will be at South Lavonia and push all the way to North Lavonia due to the wind. This was from today at those exact locations. The bank anglers that were out there were having a blast as well.

I will say another thing: If you want Carey's crappie spots, go to his free crappie seminar or hire him to show you.

Texas Fish & Game Magazine:
"Texas Lakes & Bays" fishing atlas last year, I gave out a ton of GPS waypoints of actual crappie condos and piles. Bass / Sandbass/ and catfish locations and months they r at those locations.
The new atlas this year will also have gps of actual structure to fish.
