Any helpful guideline for choosing between hollow belly vs solid body frogs for someone new to frog fishing? How do you chose between the two and do you use a different line setup for each?

Same setup for both. 7'3 to 7'6 heavy rod, 65lb braid. Hollow body can be used anywhere like a topwater. Solid body works good in and over sparse vegetation like a buzzbait

get some of both. i like the ribbit soft bodies...they've worked well for me lately. easier to work that the hollow-bodies. just cast over grass beds or pads and slowly reel in.....and wait for the blow-up....
TIP: make sure you wait a second or two before setting the hook or you will lose a lot of fish.
It's one of the most fun ways to fish in my opinion.
Get a H rod and make sure you have braid if fishing the pads.

I prefer solid body. The Rage toad is my favorite

If the water is real shallow with lots of reeds/cover etc. I like the hollow body a little more, you can stall it, let it sit on top of their heads, anywhere you there are lots of flies such as dragon flies, the hollow body tends to work. I like the buzz frog when the water is a little bit deeper over grass mats & for suspended fish in tree tops, etc. I also feel like the average bass I catch on a hollow body is bigger...

Both a Spro & Horney Toad or Ribbit have a time and place
Typically when you are fishing heavy mats or super thick pads a Spro is best
When fishing less dense cover the plastic frogs can be best
White when it's sunny, Black when cloudy and green just bc is the general rule.
If you can't get blown up on one think change colors, size or style
50-65# Power Pro braid on all! Count to 2 or wait till you feel them before you cross their eyes!!
