Have heard it was probably the worst year on record for sargassum. I'm going to fish but was wondering if my family would even be able to enjoy themselves on the beach. How often are they clearing it up and how far down Mustang Island do they clean?

You heard right, one of the worst years ever, for sure.
They work on keeping it clean, but it still piles up and keeps'em busy.

probably not safe to swim at the beach until it clears up, I heard that the bait fish pile into the beach when the seaweed is bad and attracts sharks.. don't know if its true but I sure don't wanna find out the hard way!! lol

If you want to see how bad it is, go to one of the PA webcams and see the, literal, mountains of sea weed and the bull dozers working to get it removed. They are fighting a losing battle right now.
