After a 15 year hiatus from tournament fishing I got back into it a couple years ago. Got a Triton TR186 and loved it's fishability but it seemed like every time I went out it was the windiest day of the month so it was killing my back. I sold it to upgrade. I've been offered a 21 foot Skeeter (not marketed on any site) with a 300 Yamaha but I'm worried what the drawbacks might be to going to that extreme. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would want to check the Skeeter out on ruff water. I know of some Skeeter`s that had to have more hook put in the pad because they rode so ruff.

It's a ZX. Does the I-Class ride better?

I believe the 300 will keep you out of some tournaments, if that is a concern.

I believe the 300 will keep you out of some tournaments, if that is a concern. I thought about checking into that because I have heard but the only one for sure would be top professional tournaments. I'm no top professional but do you know any local circuits that exclude 300s ?

21ft boat with a 300 on it is a good thing!!
but, it will perform much better with a 14" setback jack plate.

That's a good boat/motor combo
Rides great, and fishes huge. Little hard in tight timber, but still worth it.
Only BASS, ABA, FLW stuff that I am aware of have the 250 limit

Thanks a bunch for all the info, it really helps and I'll try to remember it all when making it a consideration.

My dad has that same boat. It rides smoother than just about any out there. It's not a speed demon, but it fishes great. Never had a tournament that he wanted to enter that the 300 was a problem.

all the tournaments rules I have read state that the engine must not be more than rated for on the coast guard plate.

I had a 2007 20i w/ a 250 hpdi that fished great . However, I did not like the low to mid range hope or porpoise it had slowing down or under power, the deck lids creaked with weight on them and I'm only 170 lbs. Otherwise it rode good at speed and fished great. I do however prefer my Bullet.

The ZX series hulls hate low to mid range running mine takes constant thumb on the trim. Too high bounce bounce bounce too low plow plow plow. It is a HP hull so trim it high and let it fly. Only way I foun d to deal with it is mind your RPM when ya get it to stop. I hate plowin water.
