Hey I want to start trying to fish at night and was thinking about heading out tomorrow night with the full moon. Where do y'all like to fish at night and what are your favorite baits to throw? Also is it better to fish marinas, dams, or flats? Any input helps. Thanks

I have never seen any at my home lakes. But I seen a scott martin challenge recently. Forget which lake they were on. Look for any boat docks that have lights on them. Dark texas rigged worms seem to be the most popular bait. I have a black no name crankbait that I've caught fish on. There are specific night fishing spinnerbaits out there too. Good luck and be safe!

Hi DDranger, Night fishing on Lake Fork is my all time favorite. A lot depends on what lake you are going to be fishing. When I lived in the Dallas area, I used to night fish Ray Hubbard a lot and concentrated on the levee's for the better bass. On Fork, there are several things that you can do. If you just want to catch bass and maybe Sandbass, you can fish Spinnerbaits and Top Waters around lighted boat docks. Being on Lake Fork, my favorite thing to do is go after the big bite. You need patience and the ability to fish slow for the most part, as my best baits are big worms and big jigs. By big jigs, I don't necessarily mean heavy. I double skirt jigs to present a big profile and tipped with a big craw, it moves a lot of water. I target areas of the lake that have shallow water that I will be casting in (say 5-10 ft.), with deep water access. In other words, I am looking for areas that are good feeding spots. I sometimes will drop out into deeper water if I have good cover around me. Good luck and hope to see a post of a monster bass on here from you.

Thanks One thing that might be helpful to someone new to night fishing is to use clear blue flourescent monofilament line and pick up a black light that can be hung on the side of your boat. When the blacklight shines on that fishing line it glows and you can see exactly where your line is at. It was very helpful to me when I first started night fishing.

What lakes are thinking of fishing?
A lot of the lakes I night fish I try and figure out where I catch my better day fsh and try and find their route to where they would feed when there is low or no light and they are not as spooky. I like to fish the way they may travel and the area they would more than likely feed.
I think I am going to night fish a lot this year, the older I get the less I like people! LOL

Also is it better to fish marinas, dams, or flats? Any input helps. Thanks I've always had good luck fishing marinas. Look for the empty boat slips that have lights in them and have the hydrolifts still in the water. I've caught some nice fish throwing a spinnerbait over the hydrolifts that are still in the water. Bass just hang under them and wait for the bait fish to swim by. I caught a 4lb spot at lewisville lake doing this type of fishing at night. Good luck!

Go to some of your favorite deep spots. Or flats near deep water fish any of the shallow cover. Docks, stumps rip rap or grass. Lots of lakes also have nice night bite on dam. Fish 1-4ft square bill, spinner bait, chatter bait or a dark finesse worm

I like fishing feeding flats and shallow water docks. The fish still like some cover and structure in the dark. T rigged blue flek power worm, drop shotted aarons magic roboworm, torpedos and chug bugs for topwater. Something in that list will get some bites.

One thing you might want to do when starting to night fish to just get the feel of night fishing is to tie on a 1/2 ounce Black Hilldebrandt spinnerbait with a gold Colorado blade and just launch and put the trolling motor down and start chunking and winding. This time of year I have had success doing this before the really hot weather hits and more of the fish really start hitting the deep water. In years past on lakes like Fork or Bob Sandlin or Cedar Creek I would launch, decide to either go left or right and would put the trolling motor down and start heading down the bank for hours. One other thing I would do is have on a 10" Red Shad Power Worm and especially if you catch a few fish in an area go back through the same area flipping the worm. But believe me if you start chunking that spinnerbait and the fish are really feeding and blasting that bait don't blame me if you get an addiction to that type of fishing or worse, a broken arm.

Boat houses with lights on the shoreline, for some reason on Lake Tyler at night you can catch one in just about every light reflection on the water.
