 Need opinions for the best baitcast reel under $50

I am taking a couple of guys fishing who are seeing some hard times right now. I thought I would buy them each a reel that they can call their own. (I already have rods for them). My problem is that I only use ABU 6500C reels myself, so I dont know anything about other brands.
Is there a good smooth baitcast reel In stores for $25-$40? I would appreciate hearing your suggestions. Please include model number and
Manufacturer name. Thanks for your help.

pflueger criterion's are what I buy in that price range, I probably have 8 of them that get used frequently while I'm out fishing. Also heard good things about the abu garcia blue max reel but have yet to try it. Hope that helps. I just bought my last pflueger on ebay brand new for $30 shipped

H2O Mettle. Can't beat it. no other reel under $100 is even a good as the mettle. 10bearings aluminum frame smooth and easy to use.

H2O Mettle. Can't beat it. x2. Also, don't know much about the Lew's Laser Speed Spool but it's on sale for $50 at Academy, might be worth checking out.

I'm brand new to fishing and bought this Tournament Choice baitcasting reel at Academy for $29.99: http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/tourname...503?N=274871093 They had plenty of stock hanging on the rack when I was in there. I've used it quite a bit and had zero troubles with it! Granted it's only 2 months old :-) I was able to put my own line on it and learn to use it off YouTube. Had several birds' nests, but there's a learning curve for everyone. Very nice thing of you to do! Good luck with your trip, Sir.

Just bought a Quantum reel at Academy for 39.99. It is pre-packaged, red in color and has a 6.3 to 1 gear ratio. Seems like a nice reel so far. Only comes pre- spooled with 12lb. line.

I've had good luck with Pinnacle reels. They make several models, and at least one model is usually under $50.
I bought mine at Walmart, although I don't recall seeing them in-stock lately. I have mine on Berkley Cherrywood and Shakespeare UglyStick rods, and I think this makes for nice "budget" rigs.
