 First Lake Fork bass and a new personal best!!

My dad (frequent TFF user by the name of wagonwheel) and I hit lake fork today. This is our fourth or fifth time up here, including one trip with a guide, and we have never had ANY luck. We spent all morning fishing the contour coming off main lake points. I was mainly throwing deep diving crank baits (DD22 and 10XD) and a little bit of a football head jig. Dad was throwing the same, as well as a Carolina Rig with tomato red trick worm/lizard. All morning goes by and we don't even get a nibble. On the way back in for lunch, we spun the hub and considered just picking up and heading home. However, a few repair shops and a new prop later, we were back on the water. The man from the lake fork marina shop had a few suggestions on places to fish, and around 6:00 we found ourselves throwing our baits in between two trees well away from the shore. I was bopping my football jig along the bottom, felt something pick it up once or twice, and then run with it. I set the hook and started reeling her in. I could feel that she was a big one, but as soon as she popped up on top of the water, I started hollering for dad to get the net! My first lake fork bass was in the boat, weighing just over 6 lbs, which isn't magnificent by most standards, but demolishes my personal best! About 20 minutes later ole' wagonwheel pulled in a 2 pounder. Not a great day overall, but much better than what fork usually gives us, so we're satisfied. Hitting it again tomorrow morning, hopefully we can tie into a big one!
