Just wondering are people just using bass rods or are yall on the salt specific stuff. My reels are good to go but needs to get a couple 7' M or MH spinning rods and a couple casting rods.

I've had really good luck with the St Croix Mojo Bass stuff. 30lb fish on the Heavy and MH, lots of fish up to 10lbs on the spinning rods in M.

I use a 6' 6", Med-Lt, Fast Action and a 6' 9", Med, Fast Action bait casting rods. My Spinning is 7' 0", Med-Lt, Fast Action. The baitcasters are spooled with 12 lbs P-Line Premium CX and my spinning has one spool with 8lbs P-Line Premium CX and another with 10lbs Sufix Performance Braid. More than adequate for inshore fishing. I use these setups for bass fishing as well even though they're salt specific rods.

I just use what I have for bass and catfishing. 6'6"-7' MH rods with abu Garcia 5000's and 7'6" Pro Angler with abu Garcia 6500's. I think I have 12 or 15lbs test on the 5000's and 20lbs test on the 6500's

Been using TFO Mangrove in the 6'9" and the 7' bait cast. Lews Speed spool bait cast and Shimano Straic spinning.

http://www.manleyrods.com/ Been using these, they are new but one of the best in the market. The adjustable but makes them several rods in one.

I never enjoyed casting heavier gear than what I used fishing freshwater for the first 20 years. Most of the last 30 years was fishing inshore. Spent much more for my rods ($170 to 280) StCroix Avid and Legend, 7ft fast action, medium power versus the $100 dollar range for reels, AbuGarcia 4600 my favorite and Shimano Cardiff 100 and 200 size. Reels were normally trash after a couple of years of hard use and never felt good about having expensive reels in the salt and sand. Unless you're planning to go offshore for kingfish and saifish, don't spend the extra bucks until you see if you enjoy it before getting the extra heavy stuff. Inshore and nearshore, I've landed many bonefish, jacks, and bonito over 10 lbs, black drum, cuda and snook over 20 lbs, tarpon under 60, sharks and sawfish to 200 lbs on 15 to 20 lb test and never got completely spooled. Normally used 2500 size spinning reels, 30 lb braid paired with GLoomis Greenwater rod. I never was in a hurry to get a fish in and learned that impatience was the biggest problem when landing big fish. I enjoy a good fight where I have to chase a fish down in kayak if that's what it takes. Bonito Tarpon Sawfish foul hooked on topwater Almost 3 hour fight with 100+ tarpon 15 lb test, 30/leader on jig and 3 inch shadtail Old Abu Garcia 6'10" Tournament Graphite rod with 2500 Shimano Syncopate reel I'd found in water and cleaned up, Rapala x rap, 15 lb test 30 leader while fishing for trout. First tarpon I ever caught from kayak, 2004 at Flamingo, Everglades National Park.

I'm very old school. I have used the Berkley Cherrywood 7' med. for more than 50 years with great success. For about 20+ years I have used Falcon Rods 7' med. Original and Low Rider. I prefer the Original and would gladly trade the Low Rider for an Original. I currently am testing a BPS 7'med. with micro guides and have been pleased with it's performance.

Thanks for the input guys. I like doin it just fine no worries there. I have a TON of bass gear but using what I have in the salt rod wise isnt appealing especially in a yak. I have mostly high end stuff that I wont use in salt.
As for reels well I am on the opposite end years of being a daiwa guy I am partial to what I use. I have 2 Z200s and 2 Lexa 3500s which for me are perfect for the salt. I dont have a single reel that isnt sealed and salt rated that I use for bass anyway.
I dont mind spending more in fact the Legend Extreme Croix stuff really appealed to me as do the daiwas but I just am having a harder time justifying the spending since this isnt tournament fishing for me and ive yet to be in a situation where I felt I REALLY needed a super sensitive rod.
That stated LIGHT is important as i will be in for my 3rd shoulder surgery 2 weeks from now.
