They were all about this size. Roughly 2-3lbs. Can't beleive how big a bait they took. Cut shad in about 6-8ft bounced on bottom. Oak point area.

We caught fish all over Lake Lewisville. No big ones, but about a dozen between 5 and 7 pounds. They were all the same size. Had to up the size of our shad to keep the channels off of our hooks. We did keep a half dozen of those one to three pound fish for eating, but returned the rest to fight another day. I think we could have caught 100 channels if we would have targeted them. We run four poles while drifting, and we fished one area where all four poles would go at the same time. Missed most of them, but the ones we caught were those one pound channels. They were everywhere. But I live for those blue bites. Love it when they try to jerk the poles out of the rod holders.

I would like to know more about drifting for catfish. Taking the grandchildren out on Saturday. Do you use shad for bait? Fish on the bottom? The kids would be happy to catch anything. Channel cats would be wonderful. Thanks for the report! Eldon

Got several more this evening including this 26" blue, and lost what would have been a PB blue, probably 15-20lbs right next to boat.

Channel cats would be wonderful. Thanks for the report! Eldon I second the Santee cooper rig. And look into 1-2 oz slinkie weights. They don't snag as easy as other weights when drifting. And run a long leader like 24 inches or more and run a cigar float on the leader so that your bait is lifted up off the bottom about a foot or two. That will keep it out of the mud and in the strike zone for the catfish. I normally run 8/0 gamakatsu octopus circles with my Santee cooper rigs.
