Ok so I had a my lower unit seals replaced by a guy who my buddy sent me too.Well now I'm leaking oil out from the prop and I just checked and when I pulled the bottom nut water was all that came out then really black oil. and not alot either.sp I call the guy and he tells me that the prop shaft seals was not something that was included and that it would be another $400 to do those.. This dude is a joke and I will never deal with him again.how hard is it to replace prop haft seal myself? And what special tools will I need?

Does not sound good because it doesn't sound like he even changed the lower oil with it being black. It is best to pull the carrier when changing the 2 prop seals. It is difficult to remove them without scratching the prop shaft leading to more problems. Check YouTube for video on seal replacement on Johnson-Evinrude lower units. What year should I look for in a used lower unit?Now the prop will not move in neutral and I'm scared to even run it.anyone know where I can find a used lower unit and how hard is it to remove this myself with a buddy helping me?

I have a complete 1989 lower fresh reseal and water pump 600.00 shipped. A lot of years of Evinrude and Johnson V6 will work. Main point being a 20in. and the only difference in several lowers is the shift shaft the way it is made at the top connection.

Which seals would I need to replace once I take out the carrier housing? And is there a kit or do u have to order each one ? Where would u order from?

If it is a 20in lower. You can measure the length of the main shaft after you remove the lower. Can get close by measuring the mid section.
