New to the forum and already tried this post once and not sure where it went. I'm renting a house on Bolivar at the end of the month and plan on taking the yaks. Was looking for any tips as to where to find some flats or grass marshes and maybe somewhere to get some live bait with the ole cast net. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Bolivar is experiencing the worse seaweed ever. The beaches are covered by 2-3 feet of the weed. The surf has been full of weed also. Rollover Pass was experiencing the same. Ship channel a little better and the bay also better. We did find that the fish were cooperative especially the Black and Red Drum on fresh bait. Mullet are in the surf if you can put up with the weed to get them. Probably the best fresh bait will be Stingaree. There are several launch sites for yaks Stingaree being one, Rollover another. Talk to the natives. All the usual artificials are working. The wind has been really pushing the tides around so be careful when you are fishing shallow.

the ship channel is good, either at Stingaree or down near the ferry bridge, lots of grass to fish. I stayed at Anna's Cabannas on my last trip there, caught several reds in the channell, wind was really kicking on the ocean so no surf fishing.
I am not making any decisions until the bourbon kicks in!

I heard there is a good launch off area off of Frenchtown Rd. by the bridge (turns into 1st st.) close to the ferry. This will give you access to the mouth of the Gulf into Galveston Bay and you can get close to the end of the Texas City Dike. Not sure how the character of water is out there, but it is on our to-do list of yak fishing. Anyone else who has tried this can chime in because I am curious to know.
