I have never really done this and am going to PK this weekend for cliff diving thing. Once the crowd settles I am planning to get up early sunday and might try to target some striper. I figure they might school early just like whites and hybrids? I am thinking cranks, rattletrap and basically anything that looks like shad. Am I on the right track with this. Also will be bank fishing at night was thinking live shad on cork might do well too.

we like to troll for stripers. usually about 1-2 mph,which is an easy paddle.we use lures that will go about 20ft deep or use some that skip across the top(early morn) or just use live shad

I'd take along some top waters and sassys if you're going early. Some big and some little. Hit any windy points watch for Birds sitting on the bank. don't be afraid to throw in very shallow water..

and there's lots of people doing well with A-rigs these days

i troll and throw cranks, sassies and when they are thick ill slab em.
i throw topwaters early and in the boils.
i like chasing them under the birds just like i was in a power boat.
have done real well under the birds because their is no gas motor to spook them
or the birds

The striper fishing at PK isn't outstanding like it was 20 years ago. I don't fish there enough to get them on a pattern but live shad is never a bad idea.

cool. thanks for info guys. I figure with live shad I might hook a blue cat also while banking. I would love to catch a nice striper out of my yak. I will let ya know how I do. Gonna have to remember the sassy's. I tried that a rig on whitney a lot a long time ago but never could find em. I only had a flasher depth finder from 1960 then though....ahh the memories.

I dont know PK but summer patterns are setting in and I would hit shallows super early but somewhere near deap water. Striper prefer cooler water. 2 hours after sunrise is probably when its too late for shallows and I would drop bait to suspended fish or troll with a down rigger.

thanks guys...yeah I have heard the party stories. we have a large group going so should be relatively safe....I plan on fishing early sunday while all the alchy's are sleeping off their regrets.

Hit a few lighted boat docks after dark. Last time I was there, I worked 3 lighted docks that were close together over 50-60' water, and caught fish constantly, including some nice ones.

Start with casts away from the main lighted area and work your way in. If you are careful, you can catch quite a few fish from 1 dock. A double digit striper from a kayak at night would be pretty exciting! Just be sure to wear your PFD.

And stay close to shore.

thanks for input fellas. I was rained out sunday morning. I did manage to fish saturday evening and got into some good schools of whites. I was dissapointed to hear that thunder at 4 am sunday. I had the boat pulled around to shore by tent all ready to go at sunrise....thank god I have a cart because pulling that thing through the mud would have been impossible sunday morning. (oh well) I plan to go back really soon. They would not rent kayaks to us because of the red bull event so I felt kinda bad going off on my own too much since the others did not have yaks. Anywho...thanks for the tips and I will post when I go back if anyone is interested in joining me. I love that area...simply beautiful.
