Ready, set go!
Heading down in a few weeks. Don't have a boat anymore so looking for a motel of some sort with a good fishing pier.

Lighthouse Inn.
Or, there are a ton of homes with piers around the Rockport-Fulton area. Check VRBO.com

We are staying at a place with a 1000 foot long pier. Surely we can catch something off the thing. We aren't used to not having a boat. Been going to Rockport for years but not without a boat... We will see what happens.

Kon Tiki Beach has a good pier for trout, and the trout action has really picked up.
Some reefs close by, if you know where they are that you can wade fish ...

Laguna Reef and Hunts Castle hotels both have reefs around their piers, deal is expect a crowd.

I lived in Rockport for about 6 years and have caught a lot of fish in every part of it. Not having a boat is not a problem. If I were you I would go to the Copano bridge, I like the north side. And fish under the lights about half way down. It can be hit or miss but I have limited out on trout, and caught stringers ful of gaff top sand trout and sheepshead. I've also caught flounder and black drum. During the day I like to go to the jetties at Port Aransas, I've seen big reds come out of that spot, lane snapper, flounders and rays, also black tip shakes run through the channel. Good luck out there.

Great choice Louie. In case you've never fished there before I'll give you a few tips. 2nd and 3rd light down from the cleaning station are good for flounder. They bury up in the sand and you don't see them till right as you are pulling in your bait or lure to cast out again. LOL....catch you by surprise and make it hard to hook them sometimes. The most productive spots in my opinion are at the last 2 lights before the T-head, But the T-head is awesome too. I've done best at the second to last light before it myself, Caught a lot of nice reds at that spot. Fishing gets better as the night goes on and usually by about 10:00 pm most other fisher people go back to their rooms and to bed. In fact usually by say midnight I've owned the place. I'll work a light for a few minutes, catch a few then move to the next where things are calmed down.Take a long handle dip net with you and snag up as many of those little 25 cent sized crabs that swim by under the lights as you can. Then come dawn walk the pier and you'll see big ol' sheepshead feeding on the pylons. Drop down a crab on a good stout leader with just enough pinched on weight to sink it. It's like chocolate candy to them. I prefer to fish the pier at night and wade the flats by day with minimal breaks for sleep. Let us know how you do.
