I had a new sumbrella cover made for my boat a few months back and have noticed that it seems to be wearing down on the gelcoat where it touches it, particularly on the very top of the top cap. Its not bad, it just makes it look a bit cloudy and I'm looking for some tips to avoid this and possible repair what has been done already. Has anyone else every experienced this issue? And how did you deal with it?

Best tip I can give you is never tow your boat with the cover on. The air movement causes the cover to move and rub the boat.

I forgot to add that I do not tow with the cover on.

It seems that the material is too rough to use without a softer material liner for the cover. As for the cloudy spots I would try to polish them out with 3M finess it 3 if not satisfied I would bust out the sand paper then use 3M imperial marine compound with finish material then finess it then wax. I would carefully lift and roll the cover on or off being extremely careful not to drag it across the gel. That's all I got my drivel for today.

A lot of guys on BBC wrap Saran Wrap around their boat before installing the cover (where the cover comes in contact with boat), usually a 50-50 split above and below rub rail. They say it works great. About 3 laps around the boat. I've never done it. But, they say it even protects it while traveling with the cover on.

Thank you for the reply, I may have to look into that if I can't find another solution. I've also looked into the 3m Scotchgaurd film but it would be a little pricy to cover the whole top cap...

These guys that were on the thread talking about the Saran Wrap, say it works great! And very inexpensive to do.

Im going to give that a try and see how it works, thanks for the help!
