My parents live on lake alvarado and I know there's probably not any monsters. I usually just sit at the dock or wme. The lake is low do to an area on the south side of the lake which I think is technically Halliburton land but my biggest out there is like 5-6 lbs most of the time it's it's 2-4 pounders. I've heard the public boat ramp was a decent spot. But any other areas or tips for there? I usually use dip bait or livers but any ideas would help thanks.

i fish alvarado all the time. mainly from the boat ramp and sometimes in a john boat. I've just recently became serious about catfishing and landed a 14# and 8# flat heads off the ramp in the past month, plus ALL my buddies have all caught 8#+ flat heads and channels. i've also seen/heard stories of 30# fish in the shallow part across from the ramp.there are some good fish there. i think your problem is bait. we ONLY use fresh shad and pearch from a casting net. flat head spawn is coming soon and the bite is going to stop. i'm always fishing there. maybe if you're intrested we can meet up and fish the ramp one day. Hope this helps

It's not about the cards you're dealt, but how you play the hand.

Alvarado lake is extremely overlooked. Caught a lot of big fish out there. Good honey hole.

The world record flathead came from a lake that was 200 acres smaller than alvarado and has around the same max depth. And from what I've heard Alvarado has massive amounts of shad. Might have to head out there and try some handfishing and rod and reel fish after the spawns over
