Like most I love a good top water bite but it just hasn't been there for me so far this year. I've caught a few, mainly on frogs but my favorite spooks, pop'r and buzz baits have not done much of anything. Anyone else having this problem or is it just me? Any advice would be gladly welcomed.

I agree. I think as the weather heats up this summer, the top water bite will get better.

Sure was NOT on Marine Creek today, at least for me!
Looked like it literally SCREAMED FROG on the north side, with reed, cover, hydrilla BUT, not a hit and I worked that rascal from 7am til 12 noon!
Arghhhhh......really wanted to get some 'frog action'...just not in the cards today!
God Bless

Month of May seemed cooler than most, sure all the much needed rain had something to do with it. June should be back to normal I'm thinking. Hopefully the top water bite will be in action.
Yes Lee, where I fish mainly, was screaming frogs too! Lots of vegetation just under the surface if not on surface. Ribbit frog works good, at least for me
Have a great day

Top water action is lacking for me too! Some area look to good to put the frog down but it's just not happening. I've thrown every color in the book.

This has started out as the worst topwater year I've ever seen. I typically think the topwater bite ought to be in full swing by the time water temps reach 70, but even in 78-82 degree water it's still terrible for me.

I agree but I am wondering if the air temp and that hot hot sun hasn't been beating down enough. I don't know about other parts of Texas but it is supposed to be in the mid 80s here all next week and it just hasn't gotten real hot yet. I have always had my best top water bites in the heat of the summer and I think it's because I see less cloud cover in the heat of the summer and that direct sunlight keeps them deep except in the early morning and late evening. I go to Massachusetts every summer and I can never get a top water bite going. Lots of clouds everyday and doesn't get super hot like here.

I was doing pretty well with topwaters/frogs until the places I fish got muddied from the watersheds a couple weeks ago. The late freeze and cold water temps through April probably has the shallow grass in a little bit of a funk. I also suspect that the shad spawned a bit deeper this year than usual.

Ditto for me. Been smashing good fish on top waters since February
