My son worked at the GM in Lewisville for about nine months. He helped it open and assisted the store manager with tackle selection and having them get what fisherman actually use. It was a battle but he was able to get them on board with some usable items. He was told by his manager he could offer family a 20% discount and did so for me one afternoon. I picked a few things out and his manager rang me up, I paid and left the store. My son calls me a month later and said "corporate" did an audit found out that he gave me a discount and they fired him. I asked him what happened to the manager that rang me up (and was the party processing the discount)he said nothing. I will NEVER shop there again. Don't tell an 18 year old kid it's OK to give a discount to a family member and then throw him under the bus. Poorly ran outfit... THAT - is something I can't even say without being censored. What a low-class scumbag move. I'm glad you posted this, I guarantee you I'll never set foot in the Lewisville store ever again. Sorry about your boy being fired. . .that just really chaps my hide.

Skeet reese rods at GM here are $129.99. Anywhere elsee $89.99. Just one example. Don't know how they think they can operate like that

Was gonna head over to the new store in Arlington, not so sure I'm going to waste my time now...
Don't waste your time! I was in the new Arlington store last week, and it B-L-O-W-S!

FYI, it aint just Gander Mountain in Texas. I have been in several in several states . After the first one or two I went to others when the opportunity arose in different states just to see if it was a fluke. It wasn't. For me , every one I went into was a negative experience. Poor service, high prices, discombobulated inventory, and a poor floor plan are just the obvious reasons. I go there for entertainment only.

My closest friends son worked at the store in Texarkana. He didn't stay long not a very nice work environment....

Last time in - aside from the $23 spools of 150yd Power Pro, I also saw Lews Laser MG Speed Spools for $119, I think they had them confused with the tourneys, those reels should have been about $80. And they had their garbage IM-6 store brand rods on SALE for $80. I just laughed and shook my head.

With a name like bass pro shops, you would think there loaded with everything. Cabelas has more selection of the stuff I actually use. Anglers pro tackle has been awesome. As for gander mountain, never been in one.

Shopped there for the first time about a month ago and bought some clothes, I was real pleased with the price and quality of what I bought. I did go through their fishing tackle section and they had plenty of tackle for bass fisherman but seemed to have even more tackle geared toward the northern varieties of fish. How they make that work I don't know........

The Cabelas Outpost here in Lubbock is scheduled to open later this month. It is less than a mile away from GM and both are on the West side of town on the Loop. The parking lot at GM here is always empty and not sure how they are even staying open. The Cabelas opening will hopefully nail that coffin shut.
