Looks like you got a pretty good setup. I would get some monofilament leader line though. Because since you're fishing alot of rocky area. That braid is no match for rocks. Especially if you hook a flathead. It'll dive straight down and get you caught up on the rocks and break you off. I would run a long leader line. And you might wanna upgrade your hooks. I use 8/0 gamakatsu octopus circle hooks myself. They stay sharp forever. But the matzuo hooks I've heard good things about.
They were out of anything larger than the size 4 (I think the size is) matzuo hooks, they are technically not circle hooks but crazy worm hooks. Same concept and I have landed lots of catfish in the past with them so I know they bite on them. Gamakatsu is the hooks I wish I could afford plenty of! Now that I learned how to fish the rocks without snagging as much and losing my hooks I may invest in some. They are fairly expensive for a college kid! I did go with some 50lb trilene big game line for my leaders! Hard as hell to tie my knots with though, especially for my smaller hook hole! For sinkers I tossed two-four ounces and they stuck the bottom pretty quick so I was happy as far as that goes. Did not lose a single hook and only lost the sinkers because they were on 4lb line to pretty much anchor me to the rock! Suicide sinkers were intended so I am fine with that. I am thankful for the advice! I believe everything I done was in working order we just need the fish to start biting! Question about shad as bait! I have always just had a 5 gallon bucket and tossed shad in there on top of each other no water and fished them dead. Is that a good way to go about it or should I add some water? The water seems to make the bodies stiff up faster to me and I have no fancy cooler pump rigs to keep water flowing so shad die off pretty quick it seems.

that braid will not hold up to the rocks. I use spoons like the Cotton Cordell you show, only a little bigger and chrome color mostly, but always mono Bought some 50lb trilene big game for leader line. The Cotton Cordell spoons are silver/chrome one of the two. The sunlight coming in the window must have made it look gold now that I look at the image. Do you run a leader line when using a spoon or just tie the spoon onto my main line?

Something else I noticed at the spillway is that people use spark plugs as sinkers! That is some insane weight right there. I hope to fish the spillway again this weekend I greatly appreciate everybodys contribution to helping me out and I believe I have the knowledge now to work in some decent catfish I may have to toy around with specifics but I have a much better understanding of the fish! Tight lines everybody, and best of luck!

I went fishing last night to no avail, caught a small freshwater drum and a small catfish. I caught those two with 3 way rigs and I didnt get anything but a few small hits with the lures I was throwing and I believe all those were was gar tapping them.
The water is definitely not as raging as it was in that video up there, it stayed around 10,000 for a few days and it is down to 1200 cfs. On the plus side I did not see many people pulling out fish it was a very slow day, even the guys fishing for buffalo werent catching anything. We had a cold front come through so I am wondering if that affected the pressure or anything.
I will try again next week! I can not seem to find a good spot from land for catfishing near Texarkana so the spillway is my go to lately. 1200 isnt too bad, and the cold front mightve affected the fish, but not to the extent that it affect lake fish, fish in moving water arent as affected by weather condition near as much as still water fish.
