Definitely made for riding the wind. They aren't tech a kayak though and they are terrible in the surf This is a reason why many AI anglers use the marinas or channels to launch rather than launching from the beach. I'm not a expert, I just play one on TV Seriously though they do not handle the surf very well. #1 reason I have not added one to the fleet. If you haven't been in one yet your missing out because they are FUN!!!

Have to say the slayer propel was far more stable... Ah, the Slayer... While stability is a quality of the Native Slayer it has no rocker. Can you fish out of just about any "wide kayak" comfortably AFTER you get through the surf. YES, IF ITS A SMOOTH DAY, SURE. But the title of this thread is "BEST KAYAK FOR BTB. The Native Slayer & WS Ride 135 were not really designed for surf. If your looking to ride over the surf to get BTB, 1. Get you a yak that has a high weight capacity (500lbs +) & don't over load it. 2: Get you a yak with a good rocker so you don't plow into the surf & fill up your yak with water. * Now when your yak fills with water going through a good wave you need it out of the yak as quickly as possible before the next wave hits you. ONE advantage the Native Slayer has over every kayak on the market to date is its NINE-TEN over sized scupper holes. These oversized holes WILL allow the water to drain quickly! If your planning on getting a slayer for BTB make sure you get the cover for the front well Area. This will greatly improve its performance in the surf. here is a side by side comparison for ya. RIDE 135 NATIVE SLAYER there are 2 more holes under the seat Cobra Fish n Dives & OK Big Games are 2 Kayaks that r specifically designed to handle surf well and they do.

the drifter is a good all around boat IMO. shallow creeks/rivers/ponds/lakes/BTB/Bays. it doesnt excel at any of them but handles them all well. owned the fish n dive, drifter & currently the x-factor. these 3 all handle the surf well. best was the fish n dive by far due to the bow, sterns & side hull design. good for surf & re-entry! not much leg room though most big guys will tell u that the ok biggame is also a winner for BTB! believe FishinPreacher has 1 & can speek from experience. the drifter & x-factor so far have been the nicest to paddle distance wise for me anyways. the fish n dive is NOT a glider though. unlike the rest, it wants to stop as soon as you stop paddling!!! the x-factor is the most comfy of these IMO. with a little creative rigging, your drifter can handle more behind the seat CLICK HERE to see . if lengths not an issue for u, you might look at a trident 15. those are nice cruisers for open water IMO & i thinking OK has made some nice modifications to some of there models nucanoe is also another BTB option. it can handle a heavy payload and paddles surprisingly well for a wide boat. just not sure ho w the OK 15' handles in the surf - sorry but, Daveg99 might know Going back about 8 to 9 years the guys that fish BTB used a vast range of yaks because it lines up like Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge. I do prefer the Ocean Kayak Big Game but I noticed that the Cobra FND was very stable in the offshore situation. I can add that now days the yak builders are building the yaks the way us paddlers have asked them so the market is broader than ever. What I and other newbys did was go along with the pack at High Island and watch and listen and learn. With good weather and a lot of buddies you'll be okay no matter what you paddle. Soon you will reach your own conclusion as to what you want.

Acoustic Tennis Jackson Cuda does really good. Sharkbait fishes in a Tarpon 100. At some point skill can make a boat look more stable than it is. This may also be an option
