Howdy all,

I'm wanting to hit up Ray Roberts on Sunday for some crappie. I'll be fishing from a kayak so I'm limited on how far I can go from the boat ramp. Is the water deep enough around buck creek to hold some good crappie in the timber? Any advice for this area would be appreciated. It's been a decade since I fished this lake for crappie.

Fish both the railroad and the Hwy 377 bridge columns. There is also standing timber west of the railroad bridge and east of the Hwy 377 bridge that should both have some fish on them. Black/Chart and White/Chart colored jigs work well. Good luck.

I was planning on starting at those bridges but was concerned about boat traffic going in and out. Is the ramp open? If it's closed then boat traffic would not be an issue, im guessing.

I am sure there is some brush around the 377 bridge columns. I use to fish there quite a bit. I hooked my biggest crappie ever up there. Some jerks in a bassboat bounced me off a column one day but most people will idle through there. These guys were jacking around with another boat and hammered it just before going under the bridge.

Yep I've had a skeeter or two start to open up the throttle before going under the railroad bridge too. It's a blind spot for them as they are going around the corner. Bring a long rope with some sort of weighted float at the end and you can tie up between the columns where boats cannot hit you. A rope to tie off on timber isn't a bad idea anyway.

If it was a Skeeter it was either Chris Waters or Stucky. I've seen them do that. rolfmao
