coming from az, I used beef liver with a little garlic for channel cats, but it doesn't seem to be working so well here. what are some other baits I can use.

Any of the popular punch baits such as CJ's, Marvs, Danny Kings, and many others all catch fish. If you want to try some CJ's I can help you with that. Also chicken liver can catch them and don't forget good ol' shad, the fresher the better.

Chicken livers are better than beef liver in my opinion. Get u some Stubby cheese bait, u will not be disappointed. Stubby is on the forum. I'm sure others will give you more options as well. It would help if you put your location in your profile. Welcome and tight lines...

Has anybody tried goldfish here, and are they legal to use?

Goldfish are good if u can get good ones for a good price. I haven't been able to find them for a good price in dfw, so I just catch live perch instead.
