Howdy all!

I have been creeping around the forum for over a month, just learning as much as I could from everyone. Really appreciate all of the information. Been really interested in combining fishing and kayaking for awhile now and my coworker / buddy (Michael Strong) has been encouraging me to join him. About 5 weeks ago, Michael and I decided to book a trip with Shane Davies, River Run Guide Service, let me tell you May 27th couldn't get here quick enough.

Tuesday morning myself, my son (Nick), Michael and Shane hit a section of the Brazos River. We got rained on, off and on, but managed to lay into some fish. The water was somewhat clear, but not the normal clarity due to the rain that has hit the area in recent days. The area we fished was warmer water and hadn't seen a lot of fishing traffic from the long weekend. Grass was thick along the shore lines which made for some great top water action.

Nick isn't new to fishing, but has primarily fished rainbow trout with me at Roaring River SP in Missouri. We recently started bass fishing which is a switch for an old school salt water guy like myself. Nick pulled out two catfish, one of which has some nice shoulders on it (probably 2-3 pounds). He had several top water bass strikes, but hasn't quite figured out the hook set yet. I managed to pull out three largemouth and one smallmouth, one of which was my personal best!

Personally the idea behind this trip was obviously to catch fish, see how Nick and I liked the kayak way of fishing, but most importantly get a line wet with my little fishing buddy and to make new ones. Experiences like this make great memories for young men and hopefully help carry on the conservation and respect for the fishing community and mother nature.

I highly recommend Shane Davies and River Run Guide Service. Regardless of when I buy or even have a couple of kayaks for Nick and I, we will still setup trips with Shane from time to time. Talk about a first class fishing experience with a first class fisherman.

Long story short, Nick and I are hooked with kayak fishing now and hopefully will have more stories, reports and pictures to add in the very near future. Guess it's time to get serious about purchasing some kayaks, after I get through the finance department (wife). laugh

Brent

Small world.... John Guajardo was telling me about you just a couple of weeks ago. He inquired about your t-shirts for himself and a buddy at work; I am that buddy, lol. Still want to purchase a couple of t-shirts and would love to check out your lures.

Small world indeed! Guajardo is a good buddy of mine, we go way back. Let me know what sizes and colors you would like, you can check them out on my Facebook. What kind of fishing do you predominantly do? I myself just got into the kayaking scene as well. My wife bought me my first yak a couple weeks ago for our anniversary and I'm already hooked!

(And I just texted Guajardo, too funny!)

Great time on the Brazos. Brent and Nick killed it for being their first time fishing from a kayak. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more from them. I know it's been said before, but I'll just reiterate it...If you're considering fishing on the Brazos, and looking for a guide that will work his @$$ off to put you on fish and provide a great experience not to mention a great guy, look no further than Shane Davies.

-Fishing is not always an escape from life, but often a deeper immersion into it.

Thank you all for the great welcome! Really love this form. Lots of great information here.

Nick and I went out this morning to do some bank fishing, it just isn't quite the same as from a kayak! Hopefully there will be some kayaks in our immediate future.
