I will be fishing a family tournament in August out of Port O'Connor. I am not familiar with that area. Any help will be appreciated. I will be fishing out of a technical Poling Skiff so I can get shallow if I need to. Thank you in advance

August for me usually means the surf or wadefishing the protected shore of espirito santo. Croaker will the most popular bait.

tough fishing shallows in in hot weather . Big jetties and surf may be your best bet.

There is a cut south of the main jetties that is open to the main ocean, fish behind that bay side in deeper sand and you may have some luck. Deep sand ( 4-6 feet or more) is what I would look for.

The cut /pass that Tim Langford is talking about is Pass Cavallo. It changes a lot but since you run a skinny boat your good if the wind is favorable. You can also fish Mitchell's Cut, Saluria, The J- Hook at Sunday Beach, The Big Jetty's and many more places. Buy a "Hook-N-Line chart for Matagorda Bay" (Map# F108). Lots of info in these maps.

Good luck and tight lines !
