How is it that the fish are better off in an aqaurium than its natural enviroment? From the pics they seem to be in good condition coming out of the lake.

Firefly,
Quotes from your message above:

"The sweetest sound I ever heard is silence!!!"

You should take your own advice about silence. Sometimes no answer is better than a stupid one! There is no way you can defend your argument.

I am not a fish-hugger, but please think about your comments before you post them. You can avoid stirring up trouble that way.

Dang, this keeps popping up, doesn't it.

Here's one take. A few fella's start consistently catching 10 lb bass at a given location on Fork. They are kind enought to tell some others online. Folks are pleased to hear of it and come to join them. Next thing ya know, somebody had a fish fry with a 12 lb bass. Next thing ya know, the guys that shared the info are a bit upset. Fish fry guy can't understand why. Only kept what was in his legal limit anyways. Besides, there are much bigger bass than that tasty twelve pounder... Original guys, feeling pretty burned for sharing the spot to help advance bass fishing. Arguing persues. Dust settles. Next thing ya know, fish fry guy sends a couple of 10 lb bass from shared honey hole to public aquarium. Geeze, why on earth would original guys be upset again???? It boggles the mind.

Why can't Fish Fry Guy find his own Honey hole and feel free to eat and export to his heart's content? Guess there really isn't anything like being thankful and curteous to the original Honey Hole crew.

Looking and learning.

How many people are known to have taken a 30+ buff from the cliffs? I'm gonna try Thursday evening, if anyone's interested. I wanna put some nice picks like they've got on these 20's posted.

Brian,

He didn't eat 'em. They were donated to Cabela's and as far as I know, the guy's who showed him the spot thought it was a good idea.

Take it easy, folks. Let's not start this whole debate again.

Let me sum up the points so no one else has to jump in.

Firefly did not kill, or eat, the fish, he simply donated them as Fishlady requested.

Many others on this particular forum have also offered to donate large carp and buffalo, but have not yet been able to do do.

Firefly was simply the first to do so.

However, despite the fact that the fish are still alive, this angers the people who have, for years, after discovering the cliffs, shared it with others to promote the sport of carp fishing.

There. We understand. Hell, I agree. But let's not crucify Firefly over this, again. The guy is trying to do right by everyone, and let's at least respect him for that.

Firefly - In the future, understand that to the people who discovered the cliffs, shared them with you, and used them to introduce dozens of new carp anglers to the sport, they don't like seeing large fish removed from their area in any way, alive or dead.

I actually wrote a big explanation, but I shall put it into a seperate post. See below.

The problem: Large Fish taken, yet again, from the cliffs.

The explanation, of sorts:

The Cliffs is considered by many of the carp anglers on this forum to be a "community" honey hole.

It was discovered as a viable carp/buffalo fishery that frequently produced large fish quite a few years ago by CnR Carp Anglers looking to introduce new people to the sport.

When those Anglers eventualy joined this forum, they began to share the area they called The Cliffs with other carp anglers they met on this forum.

When they decided to try and introduce new carp anglers to the sport, they needed a location that would hold lots of people, and was known to produce large fish.

Many of those large fish had been caught and released multiple times, big fish with unique scales patterns and marks.

So, they started holding Fish Ins there, asking only that those interested release the big fish.

Over the years, it became a tradition to hold Carp Fish Ins at the cliffs were the veterans would teach the newbies how to catch carp and buffalo.

Many people came to this wonderful sport that way. Many people saw their first 20 pound fish come out of The Cliffs those days, and many more caught their own first 20 plus fish.

They were always released to be caught again, that is what helps maintain the Cliffs as such a fishery.

Because of the way the Fish Ins brought in new anglers, and veterans, time and again, it was sort of like our little secret community fishing hole. Friends were invited, newbies welcomed and taught to fish it, because it was known it would produce, and produce well.

So now, when fish are taken from this spot, by people we showed the area too in the first place, and taught how to fish it, it irks us...

...Why? Because we're "CNR Nazis", as was suggested?

No. Because we know that each large fish that's taken from that spot and not returned to the water alive is one less fish to be shared by our community.

That's one less fish for the next welcoming Fish In to generate for the next new carp angler to catch, and appreciate. One less fish means one less person hooked on the sport.

The more fish taken from our "community fishing hole" the less viable a fishing hole it becomes, the less sucessful our Carp-Ins become, the less people interested in the sport, and on down the line.

Many of the "original" carp anglers who showed FF and others this spot with the intention that all fish be released so that it could maintain it's status as a top "community fishing hole" feel betrayed any time those same people remove large fish from the water.

FF - Sorry to hijack your post, but I felt the way the dicussion was going needed some explanation on the history of the cliffs, and why people get so riled up about it.

Kozmikgerl - Nice "first" post...
Most people prefer to get to know the place before they jump into the big debates, lol.

Anyway. No, there is not a shortage of "buffalo" at the cliffs. But there is a shortage of LARGE buffalo, which is where this discussion tends to get ugly.

Suffice to say this: Those same people who originally discovered the Cliffs as a Carp and Buffalo fishery, with large numbers of big fish, and who subsequently shared it with ohers over the years...

...Are now reporting far, far less numbers of large buffalo then they ever have before.

Why do you think that is?
