I have decided to learn how to start tying my own jigs. I already cast my own bullets and weights, so I figured why not. I ordered my mold, hooks, paint, and deluxe tool kit from Cabelas. Now I just need to get some materials to tie with once I get a few molded and painted. Feel free to offer all the advice you want. I'm hoping that youtube and your advice will help shorten the learning curve. It will be something I can do in my down time at work since I'm in EMS. I have no idea what all of the tools in this kit are for, but I'm a sucker for anything on sale.

Do the eyes on the jigs make a difference? If they do, that means I'm gonna need another mold......

Eyes probably make more of a difference to the fisherman's confidence than they actually do the fish. You can drill out your molds and put dowel pins in to accept eyes. Just drill through with a drill press and super glue the pins in:

But you can always use the eyes as an excuse (as if we need any) to buy some more molds. I need more like I need a hole in the head, and I am just waiting to find an excuse to buy me another one. I think the heads without the collars work the best to tie and for plastics. Alot of the molds are not available w/o collars. You can fill them in with high temp silicon or jb water weld (putty). My exp is both fall out from time to time, and you have to fill them in again.

I already had 6 different molds for weights alone. I got the simple steelhead ultralight mold. I'll start with that for now. I already spent a nice little bundle on everything to get started and tie a few hundred jigs. OMG

Will the reflective eye stickers work well on the round ball jig heads? This would allow me to add eyes without buying another mold.

Probably wont stick. I believe that is why they put the eye indentions so it has a flat spot to adhere to. I use the 2d stick on eyes on my heads and then coat them with Sally's nail hardener and they stay on pretty well. FYI - I bought my molds with the eye indentions already in them.

The 3-d eyes won't work on a ball head (unless they are tiny) but you can take a hammer and flatten a ball head, make them like a pill head and they will work.

Just use a pair of pliers. Most needle nose have a flat place right after the hinge. I did this for awhile. Just be careful to get the head straight. I have a lot of crooked headed jighwads. I use Do-it UV epoxy over mine.
