Anybody know if this recent slight rise in flow is rain runoff or a dam release ? And if the river here is clear or muddy or stained? Thanks
The ONLY reason to fish with a fly rod in Texas is to throw a POPPER, casting any other type fly just means you're doing something.

I was watching that...I believe it was rain runoff. But I am no expert but it coincided with the rain.

I believe most of that is a mud gate you're seeing. Flow was up before the rain. You see there's 3 similar peaks there on that chart. The gauge is near Dick's. There's only a few small feeder creeks between the dam & the gauge, so there's not a lot of inflow from them usually. They've been letting out small pulses like that recently, & occasionally a generation cycle. So, IMHO, it is mostly from the dam. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit muddy in some of the pools. I was down there last Friday & the fish were biting good! One of my bass was almost 9#.

Those peaks are when they generate power. The lake is still over ten feet low so don't look for any sustained release from the dam other then the possibility of needing power.. Fishing was slow on Monday..

Don't be fooled into thinking that just because the lake is low they wont release water! A few years back when the lake was 16' low they were releasing every day in the summer. Not just a little bit either. My advice,NEVER fish that part of the Brazos without planning on a release from the dam. Be prepared for it because it will happen if you fish the river enough. Most of the time you can paddle back up against the current but it is work!

When they generate it looks like it does here after the 11th.

I forgot about the downstream water obligations they have to fulfill.. big water problems are always looming in Texas..

Went Thursday n Friday Warm stained water above 2114, Thursday PM, but the bite was good.
Friday AM, we fished the cooler water below the dam. The shallow river sections get choked pretty heavy with bass holding vegetation, if you like that kinda fishing, its a treat.
The grass also filters the river in spots. The pool above Coons Creek was stunningly clear. Carp and their incessant love sessions had muddied some of the other areas.
