I have been told if you use braid on Fork or any clearer water lakes your number of bites are going to be significantly less. The exception being top waters (frogs) and A rigs. My question is geared more to T rigs and C rigs shallow and deep. I love braid because of the ultra sensitivity. I have switched to Seguar floro for about 6 mos. now and I think I'm not feeling some of the bites that I'm getting. I'm not feeling the "bite" but just the "pull". With braid I could actually feel the fish pick up the bait even on the C rig before it " pulled". I can't say my numbers went up after switching. Just wondering if any of you guys switched either way and what you figured out. THANKS

I would have to agree that you will get less bites using braid on lightly stained to clear water lakes. I use braid on my c-rig, drop shot and flipping rods but I always use a 10-12# flouro or mono leader. I use barrel swivels on the drop shot and c-rig and then a double uni knot for all other applications.

I use both. I don't think you are losing the bites most people think... But I do think you prob lose some. I also think you will pick up on some bites you normally wouldn't have. Pro's and con's I am a 50-50 braid flouro guy

If fish can supposedly see the line and associate it with danger then why cant they see hooks?

I would recommend braid main line with fluorocarbon leader on your C-rig. You will feel more bites and get a better hook set with less stretch of the braid. T-rig, use 20 lb fluoro only. The heavier line will allow you to feel more bites, and loose fewer fish.

Fish with what you have the most confidence in. You will always get more bites that way. If you are fishing with 50# braid it's about the same diameter as 8#-10# fluoro.

I don't think it matters on C-rig anyway. You will be using a fluoro or mono leader anyway. As for t-rig I don't think it matters but you can always put on about a 10' fluoro leader if you think it's an issue.

Go with what you have confidence in. Otherwise you won't catch fish.

I have used 65# Power Pro for C-rigging both main line and leader on Fork for years, I have caught a 12.25 a 10.89 10.27 10.11 several 9 + pound fish on this set up, so if you think it hurts your chance for a big bite, think again.

I always use a floro leader. Mark I agree and also what about all that wire on an A rig. Why dont they shy away from that? With that being said my best bass came off an A rig. 10.37 lbs. with braid and all that wire.

jbassman you use braid instead of floro on your leader too?

The most talked about technique the last couple of years is the A-Rig, which looks like several coat hangers twisted together - quite a bit more visible than any braid. If the bait looks real, they will bite.

I have seen fluoro outfish braid on Fork several times. We were always flipping and there was a big difference in number of bites.

To me that would be way overthinking it. I dont use braid much at all except frogs and moving baits. I only choose line based on cover, depth and how it may affect bait action. Visibility is never a consideration. As clear as Hawkins is I still get bit there.
