I've always fished just for catfish with a spinner bait thrown around every once in a while. I am getting in to bass fishing a little more. Can yall tell me what causes this and how to keep it from happening

Looks like you have the hook put in upside down. The hook point should stick out of the top of the bait, you have it coming out of the bottom. It should keep it from sliding down the hook.
